ABSTRACT

In present scenario, availability of electricity is found to reach crucial

stage. To protect and safeguard one’s future we nee d to save the energy.
As a slogan suggest “One unit saved is one unit generated”. A
Temperature Controlled System is a type of control system that
automatically controls the temperature of an object or an area.We
commonly use temperature control systems in Air Conditioners,
Refrigerators, geysers, etc. where the temperature is automatically
adjusted as per the input settings. In order to implement a temperature
control system, we need a temperature sensor, a controller, and a cooling
system. In this project, we have implemented a simple Temperature
control system using simple components. The aim of this project is to
automatically turn on or off the fan by detecting the surrounding
temperature. The hardware requirements for this simple temperature
control system are: LM35, L293D, LM358, a fan and a few passive
components (Resistors).

This project uses regulated 12V, 2A power supply. This project is useful
in process industries for maintenance and controlling of Boilers
temperature.
INTRODUCTION

The project is based on the working of temperature controller using

LM35 and fan. The circuit automatically senses the temperature and
works normally within a particular temperature range. Above that range
the sensor produces a signal and automatically turns on the fan. 0-100°C
electronic temperature controlled relay is a circuit using which the
temperature can be control with the help of LM35.

The idea behind the project is to control the speed of the fan by difference
in temperature. The Temperature variation in the fan is an different way
to deal with the speed of the motor. It is a process in which the objects
temperature is measured and the way of heat energy passes into or out of
the object is correctly adjusted to achieve a stable temperature. This
project attendances the design and simulation of the fan speed control
system by using PWM technique based on the room temperature. How
the room temperature can be measured? The answer to the simple
question is with the help of a Temperature Sensor. It has been used to
measure the temperature of the room and the speed of the fan is varied
according to the room temperature using Pulse Width Modulation
technique.

BLOCK DIAGRAM DESCRIPTION

The heart of the circuit is the LM35 temperature sensor which is factory-
calibrated in the Celsius scale with a linear Degree >Volt conversion
function. The output voltage (at pin 3) changes. linearly with temperature
from 0V (0°C) to 1000mV (100°C).

This greatly simplifies the circuit design as we only need to provide a

voltage reference and an accurate comparator (Al of LM358) in order to
construct a complete thermal-controlled switch.

The preset (VRI) from a variable voltage divider which sets a reference
voltage (Vref).

The comparator (U1) compares the reference voltage Vref (set by VRI)
with the output voltage of LM35 and decides whether to energize or de-
energize the relay (LED1 ON or OFF respectively).

The output of the OPAMP is fed to the transistor Q1 by using resistor RI.
When the output turns high, then the transistor will get activated and turn
on the relay which controls the fan.
LM35 Temperature Sensor :-

 LM35 is a Celsius scale temperature sensor device with its output

directly proportional to the temperature. LM35 can measure
temperatures in the range of – 550C to + 1500C.

 In this project, we are using LM35 Temperature Sensor to measure

the temperature of its surroundings and send the corresponding
voltage values to the controller (Op – Amp).
LM358 Op –
Amp :-
LM358 is an Operational Amplifier (Op – Amp) IC which consists of two
independent Op – Amps. LM358 has a wide range of applications like
filters, LED or Lamp Drivers, pulse generator, voltage controlled
oscillator (VCO), amplifier, etc. In this project, we are using the LM358
Op – Amp IC in its comparator mode.

BATTERY :-
A 12 volt battery is an irregular battery used in specific electronic
applications. Of all the types of batteries, the 12 volt battery is one that
looks very different depending on its use. In some ways, it is one of the
most diverse of all batteries. It can be large or small, heavy or light. In
some cases, they may look nearly like regular AA batteries.
CONCLUSION

A Temperature Controlled Fan is a device that detects the

environmental temperature changes relating to power electronics
equipments.

In some cases, a temperature controlled fan system is a part of a our

home air conditioning system such as in blowers, heat exhauster, room
cooler etc.

When functioning properly, this circuit can be also used as fire

alarm and will sound to notify people that instrument is being over
heated.

This type of circuit as a fire alarm can also be used in electrical

system where is chances and can be found in homes, schools, churches
and businesses, and function as the catalyst to saving circuits and lives.
The fire alarm constructed by this project work is reliable at low cost.
