Position Description: Alumni Relations Graduate Assistant

The USC Alumni Association offers an Alumni Relations Graduate Assistant opportunity for a
USC degree-seeking graduate student worker. The Alumni Association is a dynamic department
that dedicates itself to engaging USC alumni lifelong and worldwide.

To qualify for this position, Alumni Relations Graduate Assistant applicants must have the
Trojan Spirit, previous experience in and/or professional interest in any of the following fields:
higher education, alumni relations, public relations, volunteer management, non-profit
management and/or special event planning.

The candidate will assist USC Alumni Association senior staff members in planning, organizing
and delivering services to support alumni programming and coordinate events. Multi-tasking
skills, attention to detail and professionalism are key.

Job Accountabilities:

Under the supervision of a USC Alumni Relations senior staff member, the Alumni Relations
Graduate Assistant has the following job accountabilities:

• Assist in the planning and managing alumni relations programs, events and groups which
support various alumni relations and University initiatives.

• Build and maintain relations with alumni leaders, volunteers and University departments
and/or school and vendors, donors, to execute designated programs and events.

• Coordinate logistics, conceptualize marketing materials, ensure adherence to budgets, and


determine staffing needs for specific programs and events.

• Maintains records on event activities, progress, and status.

• Attends events to oversee activities and ensure details are handled as planned. Works
with or gives guidance to volunteers and/or donors involved in event planning.

• For specific programs and events, maintains budgets and determines staffing needs.

• Works with or gives guidance to volunteers and/or donors involved in event planning.

• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right
to add or change duties at any time.

Conditions of employment:

1. The Alumni Relations Graduate Assistant must be full-time USC degree-seeking


graduate student.
2. The Alumni Relations Graduate Assistant must be enrolled in a minimum of six units of
graduate-level courses during the Fall and Spring semesters
3. The Alumni Relations Graduate Assistant must be available to work approximately 20
hours per week every week during the Fall and Spring semesters
4. The Alumni Relations Graduate Assistant must be in good academic standing each
semester of enrollment
5. The Alumni Relations Graduate Assistant will be expected to serve a two-year
appointment (renewable at the option of the USC Alumni Association after each year)
6. The Alumni Relations Graduate Assistant may request an additional year of appointment
should their graduate enrollment extend beyond two years.

Academic Program Restrictions for Applicants to the Alumni Relations Graduate Assistant
position:

USC welcomes applicants from any graduate or professional program to apply for the
Alumni Relations Graduate Assistant position. Applicants in this process who generally receive
the strongest consideration are those with previous experience in higher education
administration, alumni relations, public relations, volunteer management, event planning, and/or
non-profit management.
