2021-2022 PICPA LIPA CUP Accounting QuizBowl

CONTEST RULES and MECHANICS

A. RATIONALE
The PICPA Lipa City Chapter will hold the 2021-2022 LIPA CUP QuizBowl where the best and the
brightest accounting students of the Lipa City Chapter get to represent a specific PICPA Lipa Cup
to compete against each other. This event is a yearly tradition, contributing to this year’s PICPA
theme, "TRANSFORM: Embracing Possibilities and Realizing Potentials", The activity will be
organized and hosted by PICPA Lipa City Chapter. The 2021-2022 Lipa Cup QuizBowl will be held
on 14 May 2022 (08:00 AM to 05:00 PM) via Zoom Platform.

B. DEFINITION OF TERMS

1. Contestant – is a new entrant to the quiz category who is a representative of the school.

2. Coach – is anyone who is officially designated by the school.

3. Chapter – refers to a member of the JPIA.

C. ELIGIBILITY

1. Only new contestants shall be allowed to participate in a specific category. Winners of prior
years’ QuizBowl on a particular category are prohibited to participate in the same category
which they have won already.

2. The contestant shall represent the particular PICPA Chapter, not their particular school.

3. The contestant shall compete individually and not as a group.

4. Misrepresentation of the contestants, automatically disqualify the person to finish the quiz
bowl and all points gathered by him/her will be nullified.

5. Upon registration the contestant shall send a scanned copy of the valid school ID. In case
there is a need to change the contestant due to an unforeseen event, the Chapter will send the
new contestant’s credentials at least one week before the QuizBowl. Replacement of contestant
during the QuizBowl proper will not be allowed.

Deadline for the registration shall be May 5, 2022.

D. QuizBowl Structure

1. The contest shall be in three categories:

2. There will be three rounds: Easy, Average and Difficult. Each round has ten (10) questions.
Corresponding Points and allotted time are as follows:

Average 10 points 30 seconds
Difficult 15 points 45 seconds

3. All questions shall be read once by the Quizmaster. Using PowerPoint presentations,
questions will be flashed on the screen. They may begin answering the questions only when the
Quizmaster says, “GO”. Anyone caught violating this rule shall be given a warning for the first
offense and shall be disqualified to answer the particular question for every succeeding offense.

4. Contestants shall use basic calculator only. Cellular phones of the contestants are not allowed
in the contest proper.

5. All answers shall be written on the white board provided by the Chapter. It must be double
ruled regardless whether the answer is alpha or numeric.

6. Contestants shall raise their boards after the bell has rung, otherwise, they will get no points
for that particular question.

7. Answers provided by the host chapter are considered the Final Answer. No protest and or
clarification shall be entertained.
8. The top three contestants, from each level, shall be declared champion, 1st runner-up and
2nd runner-up, respectively.

9. In case of a tie, tiebreaker questions will be asked until the deadlock is broken.

10. The host chapter reserves the right to nullify the winning of particular contestants who will
be found violating the rules/qualifications stated herein.

E. Modality

1. Due to the threats of the COVID-19 and the prohibition of mass gathering, the QuizBowl shall
be done thru online or electronic means.

2. The platform which will be used is the Zoom.

3. Each contestant is required to have a desktop, laptop or tablet which they will use to
participate in the QuizBowl to be provided by the respective chapter.

4. During the QuizBowl, contestants are required to have a whiteboard, marker and calculator.

5. As the QuizBowl is ongoing, the camera and audio of the contestant must remain open at all
times. Failure to do so shall be dealt with a two-point deduction per infraction; however, if the
camera is turned off, the contestant shall be disqualified for that particular round.

6. Contestants shall ensure that they have a stable internet either via wifi or data during the
QuizBowl. No accommodation shall be given should the contestant be disconnected during the
QuizBowl.

7. During the QuizBowl proper, only the contestant/s will be allowed to enter the Zoom
meeting. The coach must be on the same room with the contestant, and must be seated at least
2 meters away at the back of the contestant facing the camera.

8. The room should be occupied only by the contestant and the coach
