Mass media
Mass media refers to a diverse collection of media technologies that reach a large audience via mass
communication. The technologies through which this communication takes place include a variety
of outlets; these include films, radio, recorded music, or television. Digital media comprises both
Internet and mobile mass communication.

Internet media comprise such services as email, social media sites, websites, and Internet-based
radio and television. Many other mass media outlets have an additional presence on the web, by
such means as linking to or running TV ads online, or distributing QR Codes in outdoor or print
media to direct mobile users to a website.

Globalization

Globalization is the spread of products, technology, information, and jobs across national borders
and cultures. In economic terms, it describes an interdependence of nations around the globe
fostered through free trade. Globalization motives are idealistic, as well as opportunistic, but the
development of a global free market has benefited large corporations based in the Western world. Its
impact remains mixed for workers, cultures, and small businesses around the globe, in both
developed and emerging nations.

On the upside, it can raise the standard of living in poor and less developed countries by providing
job opportunity, modernization, and improved access to goods and services.

Impact of Globalization on Mass Media.

The mass media today is seen as playing a key role in enhancing globalization, and facilitating
cultural exchange and multiple flows of information and images between countries through
international news broadcasts, television programming, new technologies, film, and music.

Globalization has led to opening up of people’s mind towards not just the walls within which they
stay but also be aware of what’s happening around the world. Ever since mass media came into
existence companies have used this as a mean to communicate to let a large number of people aware
about their products.

Anyone who is utilizing these sources is in a position to gain maximum benefit as with the help of
media they will be able to interpret between good or bad as per their requirements. With the years
passing by and increasing globalization there is sophistication of advertising methods and
advancement in the techniques adopted.

Mass media helps to reveal the news of people’s misery so that concerned authorities can take
necessary steps. The whole world has become a global village due to media. Today the powerful
effects of media have spread in every society of all over the world. Now with the advancement in the
field of science and technology, we are globally interconnected and communicate with other
countries. There are a group of computers that can communicate with each other connecting
millions of other computer networks in the world. World Wide Web is a collection of millions of
changing documents on computers all over the world. These documents may contain the books,
magazines, pictures, films and information one needs. The different websites that run into millions,
offer information in almost every topic or subject.

The internet has surely brought countries and nations closer, it has functioned to help in the
development of the world into global village.
Impact on India-

India is one of the world’s largest markets for satellite TV, with some 600 million viewers. The film
industry, known as Bollywood, is the largest film producer in the world, larger than Hollywood, with
some 300 feature films a year. While there has been a long tradition of cinema movies in India,
satellite TV has meant more foreign films being broadcast.

Advertisers are also seeing a large audience as potential consumers of their products-

The audience targeted by cable and satellite companies is the same as those desired by
multinational companies at the forefront of globalization. Large middle class segment generally is
geared towards them creating a positive impact of Indian companies. Hence more foreign advertisers
wanted to publish their products in India, thus helping India’s industries and the country’s economy
as it began to liberalize.

Hence, we can conclude that the effects of globalization on mass media of all the world is the most
debatable topic, as a result from that we can get both positive and negative effects of globalization
has created a balance which is the solid cause for the existence of the globalization. Most and
common advantage for the globalization on mass media is the awareness about the world, that what
is happening in the world and secondly advertisement is to be lasted through the globalization. At
the other hand the negative aspects of the globalization on mass media is that there is not any
culture in its original state, all the cultures are hybrid now. The other thing is that the positive
things shared by the world are not adopted but of negative. But these both impacts create a balance
so we cannot stop ourselves to adopt the globalization.
