Behavioral Observations – Lesson Plan Outline


Grade: 9-12
Subject: US History
Topic: Geography during WWII

Goal:
I will teach my students the geography of WWII in Europe. I will do this by letting my students
use their textbook as a guide to fill out a blank map of Europe during 1944. NJCCS
#6.1.12.B.11.a
Objectives:
1. Identify the difference between the Axis and Allied forces as well as neutral countries
2. Describe and analyze how geographics played a role in the outcome of the war and the
weaponry/military strategies used
3. Illustrate where major battles have happened
Materials Needed:
 Copies of blank maps
 Fixed maps
 Pens, markers, crayons, colored pencils
 PowerPoint presentation
 Reflection worksheets
Step by Step Guide:
1. Grab my student’s attention and direct it to the board (1 min)
2. Give a brief PowerPoint on the topic and how to complete the activity (5 min)
3. Students break off to work individually or with a partner. Can move around the room (2
min)
4. Utilizing the map in the textbook, they will fill out and color the map
(Identifying countries, battles, and which force was which) (15 min)
5. Regroup back to their seats and give a reflection worksheet (5 min)
6. Collect reflection sheets and dismiss students to their next period (1 min)

Assessment:
To assess my student’s knowledge, I will give them a small quiz where they will fill out a map
like the one they did. They can use theirs to study. Finish for homework if not finished in class.
