Phone Conversation with Katy Hair 10:30am 11/03/2022

• Behaviour Therapist: Contact Mathew Healy and invite him to be part of the discussions. He
is currently working on a behaviour support plan for George. I have organised Mathew to
come in at 11:30am on Monday 14th March to be involved in the planning and discussions of
individual programs for George. Tahlia will also attend the meeting for an hour and Lainie
will be off in the middle session. Mathew may also be involved in some observations of
George’s individual program implementation depending on the amount of funding left.
• Communication: I will also contact Prue to be involved in some communication activities for
George. Katy expressed, that she did not want Proloq2go to be a SMART goal for George as
he is not interested in it as a form of communication. Rather, a focus on visuals, key word
sign and speech. Katy is going to complete the paperwork for George’s speech therapist
Heidi from Talk Time to attend some school sessions. Heidi has been working on soft speech
sounds “s”, “p’ and “d” to work on Georges overall speech. It will be good to cross over with
Heidi on Georges speech goals. We also spoke about Communication Boards, response
boards and low tech communication such as PECS.
• Recently George has been impacted by sleep, as he is not sleeping well in the new house.
Monday may have been a noticeable day, as he had melatonin the night before and Katy
says it does not sit well with him and she is not going to give him melatonin anymore.
• Paediatrician review at the beginning of April. Katy will discuss medication with doctor.
George is still currently having Ritalin 40 mg in the morning and 30mg at school. Yes she said
the 11:30am dose can be brought forward to 10:30am if needed ( please write in the
communication book if this does occur) This change will also need to be updated on the
Ambulance sheet. Risperdal was stopped at the end of last year because it was causing
George to be hungry all the time, and aggressive behaviours were seen at home and the risk
of weight gain.
• Katy asked if instructions and words can be kept to simple phrases for George in class.
• I will be putting together some individual programs for George, with input from the
therapists and teachers. This will involve an individual work folder with visuals of activities
that engage and challenge George. George will then have a schedule strip that he is working
on (visual activities can be rotated depending on the session) and a working towards reward
chart once he has completed the set of activities. Some of the activities discussed include:
symwriter sentences, typing sentences in Word with pictures, computer skills ( copy and
paste, data entry), he loves making videos: so he could make some Video models or do some
basic editing on a video app with a theme to follow, shredding, suitable work boxes,
communication practise and modelling ( for KWS, Speech, PCS and PECS), painting, shared
reading with a response board, digital art, tea towel delivery, recycling, speech sound
practice according to speech pathologists input, Social Skills language development “ can I
play a game with you?” and general social skills behaviours eg. Space, privacy, acceptable
greetings, interacting with other people and students, turn taking.
