Professor: Assignment 3

Blanca Cecilia Cañas O (blanca.canas@unipamplona.edu.co) Electrodinámica Clásica I (2022-1)

JUSTIFY THE ANSWERS TO EACH OF THE FOLLOWING EXERCISES

ASSIGNMENT 3
1. Two concentric spheres have radii a and b with b > a. The region between them (i.e., a ≤ r ≤ b)
0
is filled with charge of volume density iqual to: ρ(R0 ) = R0 exp−kR , where R0 is a constant. The

charge density is zero everywhere else. Find E at all points and express it in terms of the total
charge Q.
2. An infinitely long cylinder has a circular cross section of radius a. It is filled with charge of
volume density given in cylindrical coordinates by
ρ(r0 ) = Ar0n

where A and n are constants. The charge density is zero everywhere else. Find E for all points
both inside and outside the cylinder.
3. The infinite line charge of Fig. 1 is surrounded by an infinitely long cylinder of radius r0 whose
axis coincides with the line charge. The surface of the cylinder carries a charge of superficial density
given by

ρ(φ0 ) = Aδ(r0 − r0 ) sin2 φ0 .

Find E everywhere.
