Journal #3

May 6, 2022
Raul Deu

Since my last journal entry for my capstone project, I have made significant progress on
my project for where I am now. Where I left off prior, I was only about halfway done or so but
since then I am nearing the end. Since the last journal I have created 5 new videos. These videos
include, “how to change your cars headlight”, “how to replace your cars battery”, two parts
miniseries on “how to perform an oil change” and finally my most recent video “how to scan a
check engine light”.
Since the last journal as well I have completely revamped my capstone website. I found
out how I could add documents that the web page viewer could scroll through to see my work
instead of having to download the file. With this in mind I have also added short brief
descriptions about each assignment to teach the viewer want the assignment was about and how I
completed it. To be creative about my timeline section on my website I decided to add all my
videos with titles and descriptions in chronological order. This is also so for those who don’t
have Tik Tok can still view my videos on YouTube.
With my Tik Tok page starting to take off now I have hit very close to seven thousand
views and over seven hundred likes. I am starting to get comments now about people asking
questions about me being able to make specific videos to help them out. Some of the requests
which I have gotten included “how can I change my cars battery cable terminals?” and “how can
I scan my cars computer for codes because it is very old?”. Seeing these comments shows that I
am really making a difference and could keep making videos even after this project is
“completed”. I honestly wouldn’t have believed that this project of mine could really start to take
off like this, watching my other mentors and seeing what they do really is inspiring and to see the
reward of helping people it’s a great feeling. I have kids coming up to me in the school or
messaging me privately saying how they really appreciate my videos, and they used the videos
for their own work, and it was very helpful for my slow, step by step process. These answers the
“where am I going” question.
Finally, as for the gaps in my project I have really started to seal the major gaps off from
the last journal. As of now the gaps which I can think of could include me trying to sort out how
I want to show off my project during my capstone interview. My ideas so far could include a
short watch party of my favourite videos to show the interviewer, show off my website and
talking genuinely about my thoughts on my project. The other option would be to create a short
presentation about my project which would include the videos and my general stats for my
channels page overall.
