1. Hold up each flashcard in turn and in sequence. Say the word for students to repeat in chorus.
2. Write days of the week in the middle of the board and stick the flashcards around it to make a word
map.
3. Pupils listen and look. Then listen and say the words. (CD2 18)
4. Play the recording again. Pupils point to the days when they hear them.
5. Pupils listen and follow the chant. (CD2 19)
ACTIVITIES 6. Play the recording again, pausing after each verse for student to repeat.
7. Do the chant as a class and then in groups. (21st CA)
8. Make seven groups. Hand out a flashcards to each group.
9. Pupils do the chant again, holding up the relevant flash cards when they say the day. (HOTS)

INTRODUCTION
Days of the week
Present simple for regular activities ( I +verb + on + day)
1. Write days of the week on the board and under each board write an activity, e.g. go swimming, and
mime in. Point to each day and say, e.g. Monday, I go swimming.
2. Pupils prepare their stickers and look at them. Read the names aloud so pupils know what they sound
like.
3. Play the recording. Pupils choose the stickers and compare in pairs.(CD2 20)
4. Play the recording again and check with the class. Say each sentence for pupils to repeat.
ACTIVITIES 5. Play the first sentences. Pupils repeat. (CD2 21)
6. Check their understanding that it is every Monday and that they say Mondays.
7. Play the second sentence. Pupils repeat and practise in pairs. (21st CA)
8. Pupils write the options for free time activities on the board. E.g. I play football on _____. Pupils ask

2. Play the recording. Pupils follow the song in their Student’s Books.(CD2 23)
3. Play the recording. Pupils choose the stickers and compare in pairs.
4. Play the recording again, pausing after each verse for pupils to repeat.
5. When pupils have learnt the song, practise it with the whole class. Use the karaoke version of the song

6. Play the recording again. Pupils listen, read and point to the day of the week.
7. In pairs, they point to the pictures and say the days of the week. Elicit from the students what the

Food vocabulary (review)
1. Ask pupils to sit or stand in a circle. Place the flashcards/realia in the middle of the circle. Ask pupils to
point to the food they like.
2. Review the words by helping pupils to say I like x. or My favourite is x.
3. Ask pupils if they ate any of these foods this week. Ask them which day they ate it on.
4. Introduce the caterpillar. Ask pupils what it likes to eat. (HOTS)
5. Read the story (Very Hungry Caterpillar), asking questions to check understanding and using the images
ACTIVITIES to support understanding.
6. Ask pupils if their prediction about what the caterpillar eats were correct.
7. Write the days of the week on the board.
8. Repeat the story and encourage pupils to remember what the caterpillar eats on each day.(21st CA)

9. Pupils write in their exercise book what the caterpillar eats each day. They could write the words or
draw pictures.(CBA)
