 I started using the SUCCEED® faecal
blood test earlier this year. Initially, I
would just test the odd horse where I
suspected a GI tract issue: either gastric
or colonic ulcers.
After a while, I found myself using it more
and more frequently, for horses with
diarrhoea, off feed, or intermittent colics.
I found that the issues were far more
prevalent than I ever realised.
Soon I began to wonder about other
situations where GI health is not the first
consideration. Clients who complained
®
of horses being “naughty” I wondered,
“what does that mean?” I began to test
horses with sensitive flanks (“won’t
take a leg”); difficulty bending and/
or collecting, and even lamenesses –
especially left hock and stifle, where I
just couldn’t pinpoint an obvious cause.
Very often I come up with Albumin (Test
“A”) positives, indicating likely colonic
ulceration, and occasionally double
positives indicating that full bleeding
exists.
The SUCCEED faecal blood test also
allows me to identify bleeding gastric
ulcers without resorting to gastroscopy,
which many of my clients balk at.
With the SUCCEED test, I get results
within 15 minutes, usually much sooner,
and it’s relatively inexpensive for my
clients. I trust and believe
in the test. And I truly
believe this is the most
powerful diagnostic
tool to appear since
I’ve been in practice. It
is as important to me
as my thermometer and
stethoscope.

Jubilee Celebration for
Goddard Veterinary Group
One of the UK’s largest and most
well established veterinary practices
has reached its own Diamond Jubilee
during June 2012. Staff celebrated
with a cruise on the Thames on
Saturday 2 June, the day before the
Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant.
They have also launched a ‘Jubilee
Torch Relay’ fundraiser for Cats
Protection and Dogs Trust to mark
the occasion.
The Goddard Veterinary Group runs
three veterinary hospitals in London
