SUPER TRIDENT BIOLOGICAL PLANT - IMO & MED APPROVED

ST2A Super Trident Sewage Treatment Plant suitable for a total estimated daily sewage flow
of 3,120 litres having a maximum B.O.D load of 2.000 kg per day.
IMO & MED certified and accepted by USCG for use on non-US flag vessels in US waters. Compliant with MEPC
2(VI) and suitable for installation on board before 1 January 2010

Wastewater should only be piped to the final disinfecting compartment if it is already compliant with the MEPC
effluent standards other than thermotolerant coliforms and the daily & peak quantities allow the residual
disinfectant level in the final compartment to be maintained within the specified tolerance. (3200 L/Day Max).
Electrical Supply: 440 volts, 3 phase, 60 Hz.
MATERIALS:
The tank construction is a welded mild steel fabrication fitted with the required pump[s],
compressor[s] and control panel piped and cabled complete.

Mechanical Seal
Electric Motor - totally enclosed fan cooled [IP55], squirrel cage, induction motor, continuously
rated to BS5000 Part 99 and relevant parts of BS 4999, with Class 'F' insulation suitable for direct
on line start.

* 3 level float switch for pump control - polyester resin/polypropylene

* Effluent Quality Test Kit for checking residual chlorine level, nominally 5 ppm

CONTROL PANEL:
Auto-Control Panel with IP55 enclosure mounted on unit with contactors for air blower[s] and
discharge pump[s], 110V control circuit transformer, with primary circuit breaker protection,
control circuit fuses and main motor protection circuit breakers.
Remote Connections: Emergency stop, blower running, high level alarm
Indication Lamps: Blower running (green), discharge pump running (green)

INTERNAL TANK:
Corrosion protection shotblast to SA 2.5 and a minimum of two coats of coal tar epoxy paint to give
a minimum of 250 dry film thickness.

The following equipment is supplied with the Sewage Treatment Plant offered:

One Rotary Vane Air Blower, Electric Motor Driven to aerate and mix through internal fine bubble
diffusers.

One Effluent Discharge Pump, Electric Motor Driven

Sewage Treatment Unit
The Hamworthy Super Trident sewage treatment plant is the
cost-effective and safe answer to disposing of waste at sea,
maintaining the quality of the world’s oceans. Fully
compatible with gravity and vacuum collection systems, it
operates on the activated sludge/suspended aeration system,
accelerating natural biological processes to produce a clean,
safe, effluent suitable for discharging at sea.
The Super Trident is manufactured, installed and
commissioned working in close co-operation with the world’s
leading marine waste collection companies and was the first
non-American discharge type marine sanitation device to
meet stringent US Coast Guard testing standards.

Operating Principle
Aeration compartment
Sewage enters this compartment via the soil inlets and a
coarse screen before being thoroughly mixed and aerated by
the aerators located at the bottom of the tank.
The aerobic bacteria and micro organisms break down the
organic waste material into mainly carbon dioxide, water and
inert material and produce new bacteria cells and organisms.
This mixture is displaced by incoming sewage into the settling
compartment. Air, which provides the oxygen for the bacteria
and micro organisms is supplied by a rotary compressor to the
fine bubble aerators which are easily removable through the
side or end of the tank for maintenance.
Settling compartment
This section is designed to precipitate all solid material to the
bottom of the hopper as activated sludge which is then
returned by air lift back to the aeration compartment where it
is mixed with the incoming raw sewage. The clear supernatant
liquid is then displaced into the disinfection compartment via
a flow through type disinfector. A combined surface skimmer
(on ST2A and above) and outlet weir is situated at the centre
of the settling compartment. This removes any floating debris
from the surface of the settling compartment and controls the
flow of supernatant into the disinfector.
Disinfection compartment
This section allows time for the disinfectant absorbed by the
effluent, to kill any remaining bacteria. The discharge of the
resulting effluent is controlled by float switches connected to
the discharge pump.

Detailed specification
Main tank
The main tank consisting of integral aeration, settling and
disinfection chambers is coated with a heavy application of a
proven finish internally, and with a rust resistant primer externally.
All air pipework and tank connections are supplied as standard.
Aeration system
A single rotary air blower is fitted as standard to all units.
Discharge pump
One or more discharge pumps can be supplied, these being
suitable for handling the sludge encountered when it is necessary
to empty the tank for periodical inspection.
Electric control panel
The electrical controls are housed in a steel enclosure to 1P55
standards. The door of the control cabinet is fitted with a triple
pole interlocked isolator. A volt free contact is provided for
connection to the ship’s main control panel or any indicators or
alarms.
Disinfectant Dispenser
This is of the flow through type in which the effluent flows past a
column of specially formulated tablets absorbing the correct
amount of disinfectant. The process is automatic and requires no
external control equipment. The dosage is controlled automatically
by rate of flow of the effluent, as at higher flow rates more tablets
come into contact with the effluent.
Macerator (optional)
For certain applications such as passenger ships and ferries with
gravity collection or where the sludge is disposed of in an
incinerator, a macerator must be fitted in the sewage inlet pipeline.
