6 CONCLUSION
INTRODUCTION TO THE INDUSTRY

The Paint and Coatings Industry is one of the most heavily regulated industries in the world.
The sector consists of manufacturers of paints, varnishes, lacquers, shellacs, stains and a
variety of other specialty coatings. The Indian Paint Industry is estimated to be Rs. 50,000
Crores industry. Three basic things required to make paint. You need a

 Pigment to get the exact color you want.

 Binder to hold the paint together
 Thinner so that it can be applied easily

Indian Paint sector is broadly classified into two main segments mainly - Decorative and
Industrial. Decorative paints include exterior wall paints, interior wall paints, wood finishes,
enamel and ancillary products such as primers, putties, etc. while Industrial paints include
automotive coatings, powder coatings and protective coatings. The Decorative segment
accounts for the majority of the Paint Industry’s value which is around 75% and the Industrial
segment accounts for the rest 25%. Of the two segments, the industrial paints segment mainly
comprises organised players whereas the decorative paints segment involves unorganised
players too as the decorative paints segment is not significantly dependent on technology.

The Indian paint industry has been witnessing a gradual shift in the preferences of people
from the traditional whitewash to high quality paints like emulsions and enamel paints, which
is providing the basic stability for growth of Indian paint industry.

Besides, it is creating a strong competitive market, where players are utilizing different
strategies to tap the growing demand in the market for a larger share.

Moreover, rise in disposable income of the average middle class coupled with increasing
investment on education; urbanization; development of the rural market; and various
launches of many innovative products, like friendly, odor free, and dust & water resistant
paints, are major drivers that are propelling the growth of the paint market in India.

As per the report finding, decorative paints has the maximum demand. Thus in the report a
thorough study has been done on this segment, which has been segmented by application, by
product class, by technology, by demand, by composition, by region and by tier cities. The
report also discusses in detail the emulsion, enamel and distemper in decorative paint markets
by value, volume, types, tier cities, etc.; along with analysis of raw material and roadblocks
of the industry.
INTROCUTION TO THE ORGANIZATION

Sathya coatings pvt. limited started way back in 1990 when we entered the protective
coating market being one of the leading solution providers for corrosion protection
with the insight and expertise in polymer technology we had, we’ve developed/
formulated tailor made coatings and polymers for corrosion protection, waterproofing,
aesthetic coatings etc. The genesis of Kulroof happened when we were attending to
various roof related problems for customers looking for roofing and waterproofing
solutions. It soon became apparent, that many were hoping for a more comprehensive
system which would not only provide waterproofing, but also, extend its capabilities
to resist heat absorption by a given roofing substrate.

Vendors are engaging in the R&D of UV-curable coatings of offer scratch resistance
properties, particularly, to be deployed by automotive OEMs. In addition, regulatory
agencies including EPA and China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection have
started implementing stringent regulations to address the harmful effects of volatile
organic compound products. These regulations are compelling manufacturers to develop
UV-curable and waterbone coatings from eco-friendly and natural ingredients. Furthermore,
the demand for UV-curable coatings is also likely to surge from the automotive, industrial,
general metal, and flooring applications due to their durability, versatility, appearance, and
superior weather-resistance. Thus, growing adoption of UV-curable coatings will positively
impact the paints and coatings market during the forecast period.

Paint is any pigmented liquid, liquefiable, or solid mastic composition that, after application
to a substrate in a thin layer, converts to a solid film. It is most commonly used to protect,
color, or provide texture to objects. Paint can be made or purchased in many colors—and in
many different types, such as watercolor or synthetic. Paint is typically stored, sold, and
applied as a liquid, but most types dry into a solid. Most paints are either oil-based or water-
based and each have distinct characteristics. For one, it is illegal in most municipalities to
discard oil-based paint down household drains or sewers. Clean up solvents are also different
for water-based paint than they are for oil-based paint.[1] Water-based paints and oil-based
paints will cure differently based on the outside ambient temperature of the object being
painted (such as a house.) Usually, the object being painted must be over 10 °C (50 °F),
although some manufacturers of external paints/primers claim they can be applied when
temperatures are as low as 2 °C (35 °F).

DEPARTMENTS

HR & ADMIN DEPARTMENT

HR and admin are often confused with each other. They may be used interchangeably in the
workplace, but they are not the same thing. HR is human resources that deal with employee
relations, recruitment, compensation and benefits administration. Admin, on the other hand,
is short for Administration which handles most of the day-to-day office work, including
payroll, personnel records management and more.

HR Functions:

 Recruiting
 Training
 Development

Admin Functions:

 Oversees all aspects of finance

 Accounting
 Budgeting
 Auditing
 Financial Reporting
LOGISTICS DEPARTMENT

Logistics is also known as Physical Distribution management. Logistics is an activity carried

out by many different companies for the physical distribution of goods. FMCG, consumer
durables, and many other industries regularly manufacture goods. These goods have to be
transported to the distributors and dealers and lastly to the end consumer. Logistics is the
means to transport the goods from the company to the middlemen or the end consumer.

Functions of Logistics:

1. Order Processing: The Logistics activities start from the order processing
which might be the work of the commercial department in an organization. The
commercial department is the one who ensures that the payment terms and the
delivery terms have been met and then processes the order from within the company.

2. Materials Handling: Material handling is the movement of goods within the

warehouse. It involves handling the material in such a way that the warehouse is able
to process orders efficiently. Although it may sound a mundane task, it is an important
one and an ongoing activity in any warehouse.
3. Warehousing: If we take the example of LG or Samsung, these are consumer durable
companies which are present in multiple countries. Their manufacturing might be at
one point, but the distribution is all across the world. Thus, warehousing plays a huge
role and is one of the important Logistics activities.

4. Inventory Control: If a firm has 100 units of a product in stock, but the demand is
only of 10 units, then the company has uselessly invested in 90 units. This is money
which can be used as a working capital and it is money on which banks are applying
interest.

5. Transporting: Now we come to one of the major logistics activities which is one of
the most resources heavy and revenue heavy segment of logistics. There is a single
reason that transportation is costly – Fuel. Be it petrol, Diesel or gas, fuel is costly,
and it is mostly consumed in transportation activities. This is why companies spend
lakhs to control the transportation expenses because it is one of the highest variable
expense to any company.
Packaging: There are two types of packaging – One which the customer sees on the shelf of
supermarkets or hypermarkets where the package appears attractive and makes the customer
buy the packages. The other is transport packaging where the products are packed in bulk so as
to avoid any breakage or spillage and yet allow them to transfer huge volumes of the product
safely from one place to another.
ACCOUNTING DEPARTMENT

Accounting department refers to the division in a firm that looks after the preparation of
financial statements, maintenance of general ledger, payment of bills, preparation of customer
bills, payroll, and more. In other words, they are responsible for managing the overall
economic front of the business. It is impossible for any business, whether a small firm
operating out of home or a large multinational company, to function for too long without an
accounting department of any kind.

Functions of Accounts Department:

 To maintain and record all business transactions accurately and comprehensively

in a systematic way such that it could be retrieved and reviewed at any time.
 To maintain adequate internal controls within the organization to safeguard its
valuable resources.
 To provide a basis for performance assessment and create accountability across
the organization.
 To keep track of costs incurred by the company costs and advise the modification
of existing operations with the intent to reduce operating costs.
 To support senior management in the decision-making process through the
appropriate presentation of the financial data.
 To plan based on anticipation of business needs and expected availability of
resources.

Structure of Accounting Department:

Most companies have more than one staff member in their accounting department, and hence
they have to set an organizational structure to streamline its management. In general, it
comprises of Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Financial Controller, Managers, and
Accountants. The structure is as follows:

 The CFO is at the top of the department and reports directly to the owner of the
business or the Chief Operating Officer (CEO).
 The Financial Controller reports to the CFO and has more specific responsibilities
within the department.
 The Finance Controller generally has a team of Managers – Payroll Manager,
Accounts Receivable Manager, and Accounts Payable Manager.
 Each division manager usually has a team of Accountants.
SALES & MARKETING DEPARTMENT

In some small organizations, the sales department is the tail that wags the dog, with
advertising, promotions and PR reporting to the sales director. There is often no formal
marketing function, with the owner of the business taking the lead in product matters with
the sales director consulted on product, pricing and distribution matters. A sales director in
this scenario hires and trains sales reps, sets territories and quotas and directs the
development of marketing materials, advertising and promotions.

Marketing is the overall umbrella function that oversees advertising, public relations, social
media, promotions and sales. In addition, it directs research and development, pricing
strategy and distribution. As companies grow, some of these functions get their own
department and manager. In these instances, managers have their own departments, but report
to the marketing director. A business might have a marketing department, with subordinate
sales, advertising, promotions and public relations departments, each with its own manager,
staff and budget.
PROCESS

1. Laboratory: Before production starts each separate paint has a unique formula
developed for it in the laboratory. During this development stage the paint’s quality
aspects are comprehensively tested. The laboratory is also responsible for inspecting
the raw materials before they go into the product and monitoring the quality during
the production process. In addition to the above activities, particular attention is also
given to research into new materials and paint systems.
2. Weighing the raw materials: The central warehouse stores all the dry raw materials.
This includes pigments and extenders, as well as binders such as dextrine and Gum
Arabic which is later made liquid through dilution. At the start of the production
process the dry raw materials are weighted here accurately to the gram and prepared
for transport to the next department, the pre-mixing department. The pre-mixing
department stores the liquid binders and additives.
3. Dispersion: Pigments are insoluble in the binder. They therefore have to be regularly
dispersed in the binder, that is to say finely distributed. This dispersal occurs in two
steps: first through pre-mixing with a mixer and then the final fineness is determined
with a triple roll mill.
4. Pre-mixing: The pigments are supplied in dry powder form, with the pigment
components held together in clusters. During the pre-mixing these are turned to
smaller clusters and homogenously distributed throughout the binder. The tinting
strength of the paint is now relatively low, but this will now increase as the pigment is
ground finer in the next production phase.
5. Grinding the pigments: In the triple roll mill the pigment clusters are ground further
to the desired fineness. During this process the pigment particles must not get
damaged as this may result in a change of colour. The three rollers rotate in opposite
directions with different speeds. The first roller turns relatively slowly, the second 3
times as fast and the third 9 or 12 times as fast, depending on the type of mill. The
difference in speed helps to grind the pigment lumps and the paint goes from one
roller to the other. The paint is finally removed using a scraper.
6. Fineness inspection: The distance between the roller determines the fineness of the
grind. This process is run through for a maximum of five times. The finer the grind,
the greater the tinting strength of the paint. The rollers are hollow and are cooled on
the inside with water, as the pigments would otherwise burn through the heat of the
friction. Depending on the nature of the pigment and the purpose of the paint or ink,
the pigments are ground to between 2 and 55 microns. After the last griding the paint
finally has the required viscosity.
7. Colour Inspection: The new colour is now compared against the standard colour.
Both are applied thick as well as thin so that both the mass tone and the undertone of
the colour can be seen. There must not be a difference between the new colour and the
standard colour.
8. Stability Inspection: In order to ensure that only quality products are sold, each batch
is left to stand for a certain time in order to check the stability. After the period
another laboratory check is carried out, and after approval the pain is filled into
containers.
9. Filling: Tubes are filled from the underside, with the top already in place. Plastic
tubes are closed by melting the material, while the aluminium tubes are folded step-
by-step and squeezed shut. Bottles are filled, closed and then labelled. The final step
is to check that the packaging contains the right amount of paint.
CONCLUSION

This Institutional Training provided me more information about its process and various
functions. This study can be used by the company to convert more dealers into dedicated
Sathya Coating Pvt Ltd customers. Analyses the requirements of the alternate channels and
devise strategies of market penetration. Make a quantitative research and analysis of the
effectiveness of its sales force.
