ANSWER SHEET (PHYSICS

TRIAL)
A)
(i) amplitude, :
= 0.06 m
(ii) wavelength,  :
= 10 cm
(iii) speed of travelling wave :
Use formula  λ = v/f
10= v/50
  = 0.2 ms
(iv) What is the equation for this traveling wave?
 y = A sin (ωt-kx)
y = 0.06 sin (100πt-0.2πx)
y = 0.06 sin 0.2π (t-0.2πx)

B)
(i) the frequency :
Use formula  λ = v/f

(ii) the wavelength :

(iii) the speed of wave and determine the direction of wave propagation :
(iv) the displacement of the particle at x = 3.0 cm and t = 0 s :

2. a)
(i) Calculate the number of electrons that flow through a cross-section of the filament in 8
hours if it carries 13 A of current.
Use formula Q=It
= 13(28800)
= 374400
N= 374400/(1.6X10^-19)
= 2.34 X 10^-24
(ii) A 1.5 m wire with a cross-sectional area of 78 cm2 has a resistance of
0.45 Ω.What is the resistivity of the material used to make the wire?
= ((0.45)(78))/1.5
= 23.4

B)
(i) FIGURE 2 (b) is a voltage versus current graph for an ohmic conductor.
What is the resistance of the conductor?
Use formula R=V/I
= 1.5/0.6
= 2.5 ohm
(ii) Determine the unknown current P in FIGURE 2 (b).
Use formula R=V/I
2.5 = 1.3/p
P = 0.52A

C)
For the circuit in FIGURE 2 (c), calculate
(i) the total resistance of the circuit
= R1+R2+R3
= 2+3+4
= 9 ohm
(ii) the voltage in the 3Ω resistor:
= R=V/I R=V/I
9=6/I 3=V/0.66
I=0.66A V=2V

3) FIGURE 3 shows a combination of three capacitors where C1= 100 F, C2 = 22 F

and C3 = 48 F. A 20 V supply is connected to the combination. Determine

a) the effective capacitance in the circuit.

Series = (1/22)+(1/48) Parallel = 15.086+100
= 15.086 OR 528/35 = 115.086C
b) total charge in the circuit.
Use formula Q=CV
=115.086X20
= 2301.72
c) the charge stored in the capacitor C1.
Use formula Q=CV
=100X20
= 200
.
