Plate Heat Exchangers
Plate Heat Exchangers
We also offer a wide range of top quality gaskets for various plates, as well as
high quality plates for heat exchangers.
OHMS ENTERPRISE has built a reputation among our customers based upon
Quality
On-time delivery
Competitive prices
Our business idea is built upon that our customers do not necessarily have to pay
OEM prices to obtain quality and performance.
Expandable
A very significant feature of the plate heat exchanger is that it is expandable.
Increasing your heat transfer requirements means simply adding plates instead of
buying a new heat exchanger, saving time and money.
High Efficiency
Because of the pressed patterns in the plates and the relative narrow gaps, very
high turbulence is achieved at relative low fluid velocity. This combined with
counter directional flow results in very high heat transfer coefficients.
Compact Size
As a result of the high efficiency, less heat transfer area is required, resulting in a
much smaller heat exchanger than would be needed for the same duty using other
types of heat exchangers. Typically a plate heat exchanger requires between 20-
40% of the space required by a tube & shell heat exchanger.
Close Approach Temperature
The same features that give the plate heat exchanger its high efficiency also makes it
possible to reach close approach temperatures which is particularly important in heat
recovery and regeneration applications. Approach temperatures of 0.5ºC is possible.
Less Fouling
Very high turbulence is achieved as a result of the pattern of the plates, the many
contact points, and the narrow gap between the plates. This combined with the smooth
plate surface reduces fouling considerably compared to other types of heat
exchangers.
Lower Costs
High heat transfer coefficients mean less heat transfer area and smaller heat
exchangers, and sometimes even less heat exchanger.
Flow principle of Plate and Frame Heat Exchangers:
Standard materials
FDA-NBR
FDA-EPDM
IND-EPDM
FDA-NBR - OHMS ENTERPRISE FDA-NBR is peroxide cured nitrile rubber (NBR).
The rubber is used for applications together with fatty food and industrial
applications. FDA-NBR has replaced the HT-NBR for industrial applications,
because they are practically equal in almost all applications. The material has
resistance to nitric acid solutions.
VITON G - A material which has excellent resistance towards concentrated acids, even
better than the former Viton B. The Viton G is a peroxide cured fluorocarbon rubber
(FKM).
Lifetime
Gradually all rubber materials age. This means they loose their original properties, and makes them
unsuitable for further use. The rate of ageing depends on the original quality of the product and the
environment. Liquids and chemicals, their concentration and temperature affect the degradation process.
Also variation in temperature and pressure influence the performance and lifetime of a rubber product.
Chemical resistance
Each rubber material has its unique resistance towards various chemicals. Polymer and additives are
carefully selected to meet different needs and facilitate optimal performance.
High temperature
At high temperatures, the rubber material will be attacked faster by surrounding chemicals and oxygen in
the atmosphere. The oxidation process will either make the rubber harder or make it softer, or even a
combination of both. Therefore the selected type of rubber material must be resistant to the temperature in
the application in order to maintain good performance and meet stated lifetime.
Low temperature
At low temperatures stiffness increases, and elasticity decreases. This change influences the sealing force
of the gaskets. All rubber materials have a certain lowest temperature that has to be exceeded to be able to
perform well enough as a gasket.
Food applications
For food applications there are demands according to national standards. The leading framework for PHE
gaskets is the FDA standard (Food and Drug Administration, USA). This standard regulates which additives
are allowed to be used in the rubber and to which extent. It also sets demands on what tests have to be
done and approved results to ensure compliance with the standards.
