A. Regulation/Control
Purpose: managing the behaviour of the

Examples:
a. Making an announcement that the

B. Social Interaction
The most familiar and the primary reason why
people communicate is because people love to
talk with each other.
Conversation with one another gives the people
involved pleasure while passing the time in an
entertaining way.
Social Interaction allows people to be
connected with one another.
Example: Casual talk with friends.

C. Motivation
Speaker’s purpose: to persuade another person
to change his/her opinion, attitude, or behaviour.
People communicate because there is a goal to
be achieved and motive that must be
accomplished.
Examples: The students are talking to the
teacher and are asking him to give them more
time to finish their class project.

D. Information Dissemination
Purpose: When the speaker wants to make
others aware of certain data, concepts and
processes – knowledge that may be useful to
them.
For example: A newscaster reports about the
latest weather disturbance.

E. Emotion Expression
Purpose: Move the other person to action. The
speaker appeals to the Listener’s feelings
