This document is a research paper submitted for a criminology course that assesses the implementation of a curfew for minors in Barangay Patay, Sagada, Mountain Province, Philippines. The paper received approval from advisers and department chairs. It uses a quantitative, descriptive study to determine the level of implementation of the curfew, degree of seriousness of problems affecting the curfew, and effectiveness of strategies used. The results found the curfew is moderately implemented, problems are moderately serious, and strategies are moderately effective. The most effective strategy was found to be patrol and inspection during and after curfew hours. Issues were identified with implementation, including a lack of police transportation. Department Chairperson Ii ABSTRACT Curfew on minors as described by Kline (2011) is a local ordinance proscribing minors, generally within a specified age range, from occupying public areas and streets during particular times. It is enacted by a local or state government that restricts certain people from being in public places at specified times of the day. Curfews have always been helpful in assuring the safety of young people mainly referring to minors from behaviors such as drugs, liquor drinking premarital sex, teenage pregnancy and violence. The main purpose of the study is to assess the implementation of curfew hours on minors in Barangay Patay, Sagada, Mountain Province. Specifically determine the: (1) level of implementation of curfew hours on minors; (2) degree of seriousness of problems affecting the implementation of curfew hours on minors; and (3) level of effectiveness of the strategies in implementing curfew hours on minors. A quantitative, descriptive study was used which helped the researchers determine the implementation of curfew on minors. The researchers interviewed the respondents using an unstructured question then determined the indicators of the independent variables which prompted to a structured questionnaires. The Four- Point Scale was used to establish the numerical and descriptive equivalents to the respondents’ answers for each given item in the questionnaire. The results show that curfew hours on minors are moderately implemented with an overall mean of 2.98 It was observed that degree of seriousness affecting the implementation of curfew on minors in barangay Patay, Sagada is moderately serious with an overall mean of 2.52. It can be perceived that strategies are moderately effective with an overall mean of 3.17 which entails that strategies of the law enforcers fulfil the expectation of the community members on the curfew of minors and they carry out the program with at its best. Safeguarding the people, and preserving peace and order in the community by conducting patrol and inspection in the community during and after curfew hours has the highest mean which is 3.30, interpreted as much effective. The respondents believe that there are problems encountered in the implemenation of curfew on minors which triggers the implementers of the ordinance to look into these different factors that affect the implemenation of the ordinance, especially on the unavailability of police cars for transportation. The implementation on the curfew on minors in Barangay Patay, Sagada is moderately effective which connotes that law enforcers’ strategies are still somehow challenged.
