7th/8th

Objectives:
● Stdnts will breathe in a way to prepare to play longtones
● Stdnts will play longtone starting notes
● Stdnts will continue learning how to identify & play a sequence
● Stdnts will play a piece, focusing on playing stylistically & confidently
● Stdnts will work on playing w/ confidence
● Stdnts will play a piece using the written dynamics
Procedures:
warm ups 8:40
● in 4 out 4, in 4 out 8, 12 (2x each)
● First 5 notes 4, 8, 12 longtones
● First 5 notes technique builder
● Continue doing sequences - instead of repeated notes have 1 pitch change - have them
sing it back, then play it back (do re do do re mi re re mi fa mi mi)
Midnight Madness 8:50
● Student A B.D., Student B xylo
● 19-35
● 19-end
● 1-19 - ESPECIALLY at 11
● Play at a more spritely tempo
● ACROSS THE BOARD, keep up new, written-in dynamics
● Run whole piece
○ Dynamics, KEEP GOING WHEN YOU MAKE A MISTAKE
Cardiff Castle 9:05
GENERALLY focus on: articulation, rhythm, getting the right pitches out. Play along with the
horn on piano as needed
● Student A S.D. Student B B.D.
● 45-53 (ending section)
● 21-29
● Hitting right pitches (high enough) & keeping the tempo up - try to have it be faster
● run
○ If during any of these sections there’s issues w/ rhythm, stop & work it out - i.e.,
counting rests
○ Using dynamics
○ ARTICULATION - make sure tpt is Doing It
○ Continue working on right pitches/range
● Cooperating teacher
● Modern band 9:20-9:40
Assessment: Runs/larger played sections - are they applying what we have been talking about?
are they counting? are they listening to each other?
8th - student impact lesson - lesson 2
Objectives:
● stdnts will play with dynamic & articulation contrast
● stdnts will breathe correctly to perform
● stdnts will play a piece using the correct dynamics & articulations
● stdnts will continue working on fingerings & rhythms when playing
● stdnts will apply what they can do in warm-ups to what they are playing
● stdnts will begin learning the differences between major & minor scales
Procedures:
warmup START AT 10:48 - end at 10:55/10:00
● Breathing,
○ in 4 out 4, in 4 out 8, 12 (2x each)
● Randy Standy Bandy warmups - #3, articulation, #6
○ half on snare half on mallets - dynamics with conducting pattern, not with
raising/lower hand - Make Them Watch
○ emphasize articulations - try to have them match - pass them around the group
● Major/minor - Audio examples - dark vs bright
● Concert Bb major scale then Concert G natural minor
● write 1-7 under each note in the scale - what note is 6? what is the first note of the minor
scale?
● Relative major/minor - same key, different starting pitch & listening - major vs natural m
Midnight Madness 10:15
● Perc 1: Students C and D Perc 2: Students E and F Mallets: Student G Xylophone:
Student H
● Give people corrected dynamics for everything!
● 1-19, 19-35, 35-end - playing corrected dynamics! - make sure perc is on beat
● @ a faster tempo - around 130/135
● Run
The Sound and The Fury 10:30
● Perc 1: Students G and E Perc 2: Students C and D Mallets: Students H and F
● 53-61, 61-69
○ Get Parts To Line Up - check with tpts that they know fingerings/pitches - start
with them, have them follow along w/ rhythm, put together - w/
melody/saxophone line
● 53-end
○ Mention warmups w/ dynamics & articulations
● 15-35
○ Same as above - get parts to line up, check that tpts & sax know what’s going on,
check fingers, etc
● 1-35, 35-end
● Run
● Cooperating teacher
Assessment:
Runs of pieces - are they applying what they can do to performance?
6th
Objectives:
● Stdnts will warm up to play instruments correctly
● Stdnts will continue learning melodies by rote
● Stdnts will continue to sightread rhythms, with their instruments, along with a metronome
● Stdnts will identify how many beats go in a measure, & practice fixing measures
(beat-wise)
Procedures:
● Breathing
● First 5 notes warm up sheet - first note, longtones, technique builder
● longtones - pass one around - go from one person to another, 4 beats each - try to
connect the sound & make them sound like 1 instrument
● First 7 notes - harmony/bassline for twinkle twinkle - learn, try to add
● Midnight Madness - jump start 3 & 1
● Red book w/ cooperating teacher
● rhythm dictation exercise
● Red book w/ cooperating teacher
