Recent developments in the field of medicine have prioritized the importance of nurses

towards the provision of quality primary health-care. Their importance is greater magnified in

society as the statistics on the existence of health detrimental behaviors and chronic diseases

among the youth indicate a rapid rise. Modern nurses play a crucial role towards decreasing the

mortality rate among young adults through the employment of preventing screening measures

and intervention techniques thus achieving better quality health care.

Modern approaches in the field of primary care are increasingly focusing their assets

towards the detection and prevention of illness occurring rather than the final treatment after a

conducted diagnosis. Most of the diseases and illness affecting young adolescents emanate from

the continued indulgence in health-risk behaviors (Improving the Health of Adolescents and

Young Adults, 2021). To effectively mitigate this, nurses are scheduling regular programs with

their adolescent patients. The particulars of the programs involve thorough examination patient’s

family background. This is aimed to detect and prevent the possibility of any family associated

chronic illness, such as heart disease and strokes among many from reoccurring. The programs

go further to assess the physical, mental and lifestyle habits of the patient in order to achieve a

better diagnosis upon detection of a complication.

Children progressing to their early adulthood are vulnerable to the prospective risks of

sexually transmitted infections. One of the objectives of modern nurses is to provide counselling

and information as a preventative tool itself. To properly indulge with the youth on the topic,

nurses conduct health surveys among patients in school or clinics. This is meant to evaluate on

the patient’s sexual health and activeness. Thus, proper intervention can be provided to the

young adolescents, primarily on the dangers of engaging in early sexual activities, the types of

sexually transmitted infections and the various methods of protection one can employ

Violence among youth according to WHO is a major global health problem. Taking the

place as the 4th highest killer among the youths, its effects are immensely felt. These range from

physical disabilities to psychological effects such as social insecurity. Statistics obtained from

surveys are used to map out high risk areas for the provision of counselling services. The

programs are aimed to identify and assess the mental conditions of the individuals as a guiding

factor (Improving the Health of Adolescents and Young Adults, 2021). Basic life skills are

instilled within the children, ranging from anger management, guidelines for resolving a conflict

and the necessary social skills required to bypass problems.

Extensive research obtained from the world health organization indicates severe mental

illness as being a major contributing factors towards early mortality rates among youth. To

effectively treat this it is adamant nurses be able to effectively detect the existence in its early

stages. This helps to avoid any suicide associated risks and hasten the recovery process. Nurses

are able to detect the warning symptoms such as apparent changes in perceptions, moods, extra-

ordinary thoughts against their normal culture and, hallucinations (Contributor, 2021). Upon

detection the patients can be referred to a mental health specialist or be fixed in a mental

institution for further treatment. The role of nurses in early detection and referral of mentally ill

individuals is important towards reduction in mortality rates among youth.

Nurses play a decisive role towards achieving better health care among young adults and

thus lowering the morality rates. Through the use of preventive screening of any prevalent

mental and chronic conditions, the guided intervention for creating awareness about previously

neglected topics of violence and sexual health, lower mortality rate statistics can be achieved.
