DUAL CREDIT PROGRAM
Located on the campus of MiraCosta Community College in beautiful Southern
California, the Academy at MiraCosta is a uniquely blended program where high
school students take courses to earn both high school and college credit at the
same time. By earning college credits while completing high school, students
have the opportunity to save not just time but also money.
The campus is perfectly situated just 10 minutes from Oceanside Beach and 20
minutes from San Diego. With an amazing climate and a dazzling array of things
to do, students can have a truly phenomenal educational experience.
The Academy
Students in the program receive the best of all worlds with access to college
writing and math tutors along with educational counselors. Through The
Academy, staff create individualized learning programs to plan each student’s
class guide to match their educational goals. Students have weekly 1-to1
meetings with staff along with small group learning sessions.
Whether a student is coming for a semester or looking for dual (high school and
college) degrees, and whether the student’s language skills are at a low or
proficient level, The Academy at MiraCosta has a full range of support services
to help students reach their academic goals.
While studying at The Academy and having access to top
level academic support, international students will also
Student Services
receive wraparound support outside of the classroom. The
Academy staff perform home visits and screenings for each
host family in order to ensure students are properly
supported. And weekly 1-on-1 meetings give students the
opportunity to discuss any miscommunication issues with
teachers or with families. Staff are always available to help
bridge any misunderstandings while helping with the
transition to an American school system.
The Academy also offers several special activities just for high school students. Cultural events and visits to San Diego museums help students experience
the city and surrounding areas while college tours allow students with aspirations of transferring a firsthand look at potential schools. Whether it’s a bonfire
on the beach or an afternoon at a world-class art museum, students have many opportunities to build relationships and further their educational plan.
