How to be Active in St.

Louis
Introduction
Because all of our topics have to do with spending time outdoors and being active, we chose to
get outside to be our campaign. Because of how broad this topic is, we are able to cover
multiple things in the St. Louis area, from outdoor concerts to long walks in the sun, St. Louis
offers many different ways to get outside and enjoy nice weather.

Twitter Campaign
We made a Twitter account to begin our campaign by showing others what is available in the
area to do. Our goal is to get people out of their homes so we attempted to include a broad
range of options to appeal to many different groups.

We started with this post because hiking is

something that many do already and the link
provided had many hikes that others may not
have done yet. The main intention, along with
all of the other posts, was to show the
audience new things to discover in the local
area.
This post was targeted toward couples or
groups of friends looking to get outside for
local food. As the STL area has plenty of
outdoor locations to eat, there is always
something new to discover, even if the
audience is not looking for something that will
physically exert themselves.

This is also a post targeted toward people

who do not want to physically exert
themselves while going outside. Local
concerts are a great way to spend time
outside with friends and typically appeal to
most people. Most of the venues listed are
free and fairly close to downtown so it would
not be difficult to attend.

Forest Park is a classic in the STL area and

anyone living here or close probably knows
the name. What people may not know is the
number of things that are available in Forest
Park. From the zoo to the science center and
everything in between, there is something for
everyone to spend time outdoors.
The Katy Trail; is also a classic in the area
and easily accessible. This is targeted toward
people who are looking for more physical
activity as people will either have to walk or
bike the Katy. This is a great local area as it is
a well-kept gravel path that can be accessible
to most people. This post was made so
people could see the more natural side of
STL and enjoy spending time outside.
Instagram Campaign:
For the Instagram campaign, we decided to focus on photos that fit an aesthetic that promoted
fitness. Under each of our posts, we added captions that further explained how exercising can
improve the body and mind. In order to connect with a new audience, we centered the page
around UMSL students. While the Twitter account promoted exercise and outdoor time around
the entire St. Louis area, Instagram was much more specific as it centered solely around cheap
ways to be active in the UMSL area.

This post was made to promote the benefit of

being outside. We pointed out smiling and
mentioned it being a natural antidepressant
which has been proven to be true. Getting
outside and active is great for mental health
The point of this “challenge” is to remind
college students to take care of themselves.
We explain that getting outside and going for
a walk can relieve stress. We also took a
humorous standpoint by saying its free
because it is common for college students to
be in less ideal financial situations.

This post was made to encourage others to

spend more time outside working out in ways
such as running, hiking, and outdoor yoga. It
specifically targets the STL area by giving an
example of a local yoga class that people can
attend. This works well, as it appeals to many
different people looking for different levels of
exertion from a basic walk to a physically
exerting run.
This is a good post to appeal to many people
throughout the area. By showing an example
of an outdoor concert that many can go to,
people may gain the urge to go and
experience one for themselves. Most of the
concerts are cheap, or even free, so they can
appeal to all.
