Mariners Recall LHP Danny Young RHP Erik Swanson Placed On 15-Day Injured List
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Seattle Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the
following roster moves:
Young, 27, was recalled to Seattle after being optioned to Tacoma yesterday. He made his Major League debut
with Seattle on May 9 vs. Philadelphia, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.
The left-hander was signed by Seattle to a minor league contract on Feb. 9, 2022 and was invited to Major
League spring training. He’s appeared in 9 games with Triple-A Tacoma this season, going 0-0 with 1 save and
a 7.00 ERA (7 ER, 9.0 IP) with 2 walks and 15 strikeouts.
Young was selected by Toronto in the 8th round of the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of
Florida. He has appeared in 7 minor league seasons in the Toronto (2015-19), Cleveland (2021) and Seattle
(2022) organizations.
Swanson, 28, is 0-0 with a 1.29 ERA (2 ER, 14.0 IP) in 13 relief appearances with Seattle. The right-hander has
limited opponents to .192 (10x52) average, while walking 1 and striking out 21 over 14.0 innings in relief.
Swanson opened the season tossing 12.0 scoreless innings over his first 11 games, April 10-May 6. During this
stretch he allowed only 8 hits while walking 1 and striking out 16.
He was acquired by the Mariners from the Yankees along with Justus Sheffield (LHP) and Dom Thompson-Williams
(OF) in exchange for James Paxton (LHP) on Nov. 19, 2018. He was originally selected by the Rangers in the 8th
round of the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Iowa Western Community College. Overall, in parts of 4 Major
League seasons with the Mariners (2019-c), he is 1-10 with a 4.93 ERA (63 ER, 115.0 IP) with 25 walks and 117
strikeouts in 82 career games (10 starts).
