Performance Considerations
Timing: All bands have a 30 minute time slot for setup, performance, and teardown. Please help us
keep the festival running on time by planning appropriately. You are free to choose the number of
selections your band will perform, but we recommend that you keep your performance time to no
more than 20 minutes. This will allow for 5 minutes to setup and 5 minutes for teardown.
Music Requirements: It is NOT necessary to provide music scores for the judges. There are no
specific performance requirements. Feel free to perform music that is most appropriate for your
group. The primary purpose of the Alief ISD Jazz Festival is to celebrate our students by performing
jazz music. We can’t wait to hear your students perform on our stage!
Judging, Clinic, & Recordings: There will be 3 judges listening to all of the bands throughout the
day. These judges will make an audio recording of their feedback and evaluation. The judges
recordings and an audio recording of your performance will be available for download in the online
Director Information Folder. There will be one additional judge that will serve as your group’s
clinician. The clinician will listen to your stage performance and then work with your group in the
Band Hall after you are finished performing.
Solo Microphones: 3 Solo Instrumental Microphones and 1 Solo Vocal Microphone will be
available on stage. Please indicate on the stage setup chart if you would like to use the
microphones and where you would like them placed. It is the band director’s responsibility to move
the microphones as needed throughout their performance. We will have a sound technician in the
theater managing the sound levels of the solo microphones. You are not required to have
microphones if not needed.

Good Morning/Afternoon and welcome to the 2022 Alief ISD Jazz Festival. The performances today
are being professional recorded so please take a moment to silence your cell phones. After each
band is finished performing, you’re welcome to follow band into the Clinic Room. Or if you prefer,
you can also visit the cafeteria where we are serving a variety of snacks and drinks at the

offer our most sincere thanks to our sponsor, H&H Music in Katy for their financial support. Thank
you to all of you for being here to support the students on stage as we celebrate jazz, a true
