Lesson Plan

Title Vocabulary Lesson

Overview The lesson will be based on tier 2 words with


student-friendly definitions or synonyms, as
well as some other kind of mental anchor
(GIF). The vocabulary lesson will be
integrated with social studies focused on a
historical figure, Ruby Bridges. The words
will be based on the Ruby Bridges passage.

Development or Procedure Opening (Before the activity): 5 minutes


- Have students sit on the rug and the
teacher will count down from 10 and
clap in between the numbers.
- After the students get into their
learning spots, have a class discussion.
- “Do you remember on Tuesday
we had a vocabulary lesson?”
- “Does anyone remember the
words we learned”
- Introduce the lesson
- “Today’s lesson will be very
similar to the one that we did
on Tuesday. The only
difference would be you will
get the worksheets after the
vocabulary lesson.”

- Remind the students what kind of


behavior they should have during the
read aloud and pick two students to
tell the teacher
- “Who can explain to me how
to behave during the lesson?”

Body: 15 minutes
The teacher will hand out the paper.
- “Instead of thinking in your head, you
will write your sentence after we read
the word and the definition. Then, you
will share it with the person next to
you.”
- “Instead of telling your own sentence,
you will share your partner’s
sentence”

Remind the students the rules


- “Can anyone remind us how we did
this?”

Then, the teacher will introduce the Tier 2


words. [bold, integrate, mob, compassion]

Transition to the table: 1 minute


After the vocabulary lesson, have the students
go back to their seat to do the worksheet.

The worksheet will be provided by the teacher


when students are sitting on the table.

Closing: 7 minutes
