Fact Sheet D12D460, EM-ECPT4

The D12D460 is a 460 hp, 12 litres straight, six-cylinder


diesel engine with turbo and intercooler. The engine meets EU
regulations regarding exhaust emission according to Euro 3.
D12D460, EM-ECPT4 has further reduced emissions for
oxides of nitrogen (NOx). This engine is approved for four
(4) ECO-points according to the Austrian regulations.

The D12D is a new generation of Volvo’s well-proven and


sturdy D12 engine. The D12D is equipped with renewed
fuel injection and the Volvo EMS engine control system
for optimal combustion and low emission.
D12D460 is fitted with a common cylinder head, four
valves per cylinder, overhead camshaft and electronically
controlled unit injectors. There are exchangeable wet
cylinder liners. Modified cooling of cylinder liners and
cylinder head provides improved heat dissipation.
The efficient combustion is made possible through high
charge pressure from the turbo charger, high compression
and precision-controlled high-pressure injection.
The introduction of the second generation unit injectors
with improved injection characteristics, combined with
extensive improvement of the combustion system, makes
the D12D in the Euro 3 version still highly competitive
regarding to efficiency and service intervals, now extended.
The engine is developed for heavy and demanding tran-
sports on hilly roads especially within long haul traffic.
The following product features characterise the D12D460:
• Electronic engine management, EMS, with precise fuel
injection, results in efficient combustion with low
emission values.
• Vertical centrally located unit injectors result in
symmetrical distribution of the fuel.
• From an electronic sensor, the oil level can be read on
the driver’s graphic display.
• Engine brake – VEB – compression brake and exhaust
brake with high brake efficiency and improved Power, kW

adjustment.
• Various power take-offs are available for a directly 360
