PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 DESCRIPTION OF WORK

A. This Section covers the furnishing and installation of all plumbing fixtures and trims
including all carriers, supports, anchors and accessories, in the location and
quantities shown on the Contract Drawings.

1.03 SCOPE OF WORK

A. Furnishing, installation, testing and bringing systems into full satisfactory operational
conditions of the plumbing fixtures and trims.

B. The Contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, tools and equipment required to
make the work complete and ready.

C. The Contractor shall provide all services, storage tanks, fill and refill mediums,
chemicals and all whatever other materials required for testing, commissioning and
start ups.

D. This Section shall be read in conjunction with SECTIONS 15051 and 15055.

1.05 REFERENCES

A. The referred codes and standards are intended to provide an acceptable level of
quality for materials, products and workmanship. In case of conflict between these
standards and the text of this Specification, the Specification text shall govern.

B. The latest revision of the referred codes and standards shall be used wherever
applicable. In case of conflict, the Contractor shall propose equipment, materials and
processes conforming to one group of codes and standards.

1.06 SUBMITTALS

A. The Contractor shall submit to the Royal Commission, under the provisions of
SECTION 01330, the following items for review and approval before commencing
Work:

1. Product Data

a) Provide copies of manufacturer's catalogs, containing technical


specifications, illustrations, sizes, rough-in dimensions, pipe connection
sizes and finishes; for all fixtures, trim and accessories proposed.

b) Submit 2 or more brand or manufacturers of plumbing fixtures.

2. Samples

a) Submit 3 color samples, where other than white fixtures are proposed.

b) Submit 2 lavatory supply fittings.

3. Shop Drawings showing the proposed method of installation for all fixtures.

4. Manufacturer's Instructions

a) Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.

b) Preparation instructions and recommendations.

5. Maintenance Data

a) Include fixture trim exploded view and replacement parts lists.

6. Warranty

a) Submit manufacturer’s warranty and ensure forms have been completed


in Royal Commission’s name and registered with manufacturer.

1.07 QUALITY CONTROL

A. The Contractor shall be responsible for the quality of Work and shall develop and
propose programs and methods of construction and testing such as to achieve the
specified quality to the approval of the Royal Commission in accordance with
SECTION 01450.

B. Quality Assurance

1. Manufacturer’s Qualifications

a) Company specializing in manufacturing the type of products specified in


this Section, with assured product quality history.

2. Equipment Requiring Electrical Connection

a) Listed and classified by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) as suitable


for the purpose intended.

C. Regulatory Requirements

1. Products Requiring Electrical Connection

a) Listed and classified by Underwriters Laboratories Inc., as suitable for


the purpose specified and indicated.

D. Mock-Up

1. Provide mock-up of typical bathroom group.

2. Mock-up may remain as part of the work.

1.08 HEALTH AND SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

A. All works undertaken in relation to this Specification are to be completed in full


accordance with the respective health and safety requirements established by the
following:

1. Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

a) Legislation, Regulation, Standards and Codes.

2. Royal Commission Regulations

a) Standards, Contractual Conditions, and Health and Safety Systems.

3. Contractor

a) Health and Safety Standards and Systems as accepted by the Royal


Commission.

B. In the absence of any of the above, best accepted industry practice shall be
employed throughout.

1.09 DELIVERY, HANDLING AND STORAGE

A. The Contractor shall deliver, handle and store equipment and material units in
accordance with SECTIONS 01650 and 01660, as well as the following
requirements:

1. Deliver materials in original, unopened, protective packaging to prevent


damage to the material and finish.

2. Inspect for damage.

3. Store all fixtures in an upright position, above ground and in a dry place.

4. Trim and accessories shall also be stored above ground in a dry place.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.01 GENERAL

A. All goods and products covered by these Specifications shall be procured, when
available, from an in-Kingdom manufacturer. Procurement of all goods and products
manufactured out-of-Kingdom must be approved by the Royal Commission.

B. All fixtures, trim and accessories shall be furnished by a manufacturer or supplier,


regularly engaged in the manufacture or supply of plumbing fixtures.

C. All fixtures shall be of manufacturer's standard, selected from the top half of the
product line and shall not be "factory close-out," "end of the product model," or
otherwise discontinued models.

D. Each fixture and device shall have indelibly product name marked on it.

E. Vitreous ware for the fixtures shall be first-quality, non-absorbent china, of even color
and unwrapped.

F. Enamel ware shall be constructed of smooth, sound, iron castings, properly finished
and provided with first-quality high-temperature enamel.

G. Provide all products from a single manufacturer, where feasible and unless otherwise
noted.

H. All dimensions given here below are tentative and approximate nominal.

I. Fixture dimensions shall be manufacturer’s standard average size.

J. Although this part is structured for easy selection of fixtures, it will nevertheless be
necessary to refer to the manufacturer's printed catalog (or CD-ROM equivalent) for
exact, dimensions, shapes and colors other than white.

K. Manufacturer preference and model number shall be provided by the Contractor/


Supplier.

L. Final fixtures selection subject to the Royal Commission approval.

M. All fixtures color shall be white, unless otherwise noted. All matching color shall be
selected by the Royal Commission.

N. All fixtures shall be provided complete with faucets, water supplies, drains, fittings,
accessories and necessaries for complete, operational installation.

O. Fittings for fixtures shall be of heavy red brass castings, properly finished and
chrome plated.

P. Escutcheons shall be chromium plated brass.

Q. All exposed piping and tubing, when applicable, shall be of red brass, chrome plated.

R. All vitreous china fixtures shall comply with ANSI A112.19.2M.

S. All cast iron fixtures shall comply with ANSI A112.19.1M.

2.02 LAVATORIES

A. General

1. Lavatories for residences shall be:

a) Wall or pedestal mounted type.

b) Vitreous china.

c) Overflow and pop-up waste.

d) Accessories as specified below.

2. Lavatories for public areas or commercial buildings shall be:

a) Wall or pedestal mounted.

b) Vitreous china.

c) Front overflow, with pop-up waste.

d) Self-closing faucets.

e) Faucets shall be chromium plated brass with red and blue indicators for
hot and cold water or single lever type.

3. Accessories

a) Unless otherwise noted , provide the following for each lavatory, as


applicable:
1) Faucet, hot and cold supply.
2) Chrome plated supply pipes.
3) Shut-off valves.
4) Chrome plated outlet and trap.
5) Lavatory with Overflow
(a) Chrome plated pop-up drain.

4. Maximum Flow

a) All faucets shall have maximum flow rate of 9.5 L/m (2.5 gallons per
minute) flow.

b) All lavatory faucets in public facilities shall have a maximum flow rate of
5 L/m.

stainless steel mop hanger with 3 rubber tool grips.

2.04 BIDETS

2.11 ELECTRIC WATER COOLERS

A. Features

2. The refrigerant used shall be safe for ozone and environment.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01 GENERAL

A. All fixtures shall be free from imperfections, true as to line, angles, curves and color;
smooth, watertight, complete in every respect.

B. Install fixtures and fittings in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

C. It shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to guarantee proper selection and


coordination of all fittings and parts relating to each fixture.

3.02 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

A. Check that fixtures are complete with trim, faucets, fittings and other specified
components.

B. Inspect installed fixtures for damage. Replace damaged fixtures and components.

C. Test installed fixtures after water systems are pressurized and demonstrate proper
operation.

D. Replace malfunctioning fixtures and components, and then re-test.

3.03 PRE-INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

A. Inspection

1. Verify that walls and floor finishes are prepared and ready for installation of
fixtures.

2. Verify that piping, rough-ins and wiring are installed and in the right location.

3. Verify that electric power is available and of the correct characteristics.

4. Confirm that millwork is constructed with adequate provision for the installation
of counter top lavatories and sinks.

B. Preparation

1. Rough-in fixture piping connections in accordance with minimum sizes


indicated in fixture rough-in schedule for particular fixtures.

2. Install hangers for wall-mounted fixtures in walls before wall surface is


completed, where applicable.

3.04 INSTALLATION

A. Supports

1. Install and secure fixtures in place with supports and bolts.

2. Supports shall be in accordance with recommendations of fixture


manufacturer, and if built into partitions or walls, shall be set as wall
construction progresses.

3. Furnish and set all hangers, supports, brackets, etc., for proper installation of
all fixtures and equipment.

4. The Contractor shall be responsible for stability of all fixtures and furnishing all
chair carriers or other materials necessary to accomplish this.

5. Exact mounting height shall be as shown on the Contract Drawings.

6. All supports shall be concealed unless noted otherwise.

7. Drill holes carefully to avoid chipping block or tile.

8. All chair carriers shall be secured to floor deck and wall.

9. If not factory primed or coated, prime all concealed supports with 1 coat of
rust-resistant primer.

B. Fixtures

1. All fixtures and equipment shall be mounted level, plumb, sure, rigid and flush
with wall or floor as appropriate.

2. Provide required trim including chrome plated rigid or flexible supplies, loose-
keyed stops, reducers, wastes, traps and floor and wall escutcheon plates.

3. Make connections to all supply lines and drains.

4. Install individual stop valve in each water supply to fixture.

5. Exception

a) Omit stop valves on supplies to emergency equipment, except when


permitted by the Royal Commission. When permitted, install valve
chained and locked in the “OPEN” position.

6. Install water-supply stop valves in accessible locations.

7. Install each fixture with trap, easily removable for servicing and cleaning. Omit
traps on fixtures having integral traps. Omit traps on indirect wastes, except
where otherwise noted.

8. Install escutcheons at wall, floor and ceiling penetrations in exposed, finished


locations and within cabinets and millwork. Use deep-pattern escutcheons

where required to conceal protruding pipe fittings.

9. Use setting compound under all setting surfaces.

10. All fixtures shall be left thoroughly clean and free from all marks and foreign
substances.

11. The Contractor shall replace all leaky faucets and valves prior to initial
acceptance.

12. All faucets shall have visible indices.

13. All trim shall be permanently stamped with manufacturer's identification visible
after installation.

14. Caulk around all fixtures and adjacent wall and floor surfaces with a white, or
color to match fixture, silicone sealant fungicidal type.

15. Set shower receptors and mop basins in leveling bed of cement grout.

16. Solidly attach water closets to floor with lag screws. Lead flashing is not
intended to hold fixture in place.

C. Water Coolers Installation

1. The unit shall be provided with a shut-off stop valve and a minimum 32 mm
P-trap with cleanout for through the wall discharge. It shall be indirectly
connected to the drainage line with vent.

2. Electrical Connections

a) Refer to SECTION 16150.

3.05 GENERAL PLUMBING CRITERIA

A. Shut off valves shall be supplied for each fixture, at entrances of buildings and to all
equipment and controls.

B. Concealed valves shall be provided with access plates.

C. Install unions on one side of all valves, equipment connections and elsewhere as
shown or required for ease of service and/or installation, unless flanges are
indicated.

D. Minimum branch pipe size shall be 20 mm nominal.

E. Caulk around all plumbing fixtures with white silicone epoxy type, non-hardening
compound, where fixtures meet floor or wall as required to present a finish
appearance. See SECTIONS 07910 and 07920.

PLUMBING FIXTURES

1. Operate and adjust faucets, controls and any other equipment, as applicable.

2. Replace damaged and malfunctioning fixtures, fittings and controls.

3. Repeat procedure until units operate properly.

4. Replace seals for leaking and dripping faucets and stops.

5. Adjust intended water flow rate to comply with manufacturer’s rating of the
fixture, without splashing, noise or overflow.

6. Adjust all flush valves, where applicable, for quiet operation, minimum
pressure required to cleanse bowls and period of flush.

E. Equipment Grounding

1. Arrange for electric-power connections to fixtures and devices that require


power. Electric power is specified in Division 16 Sections.

2. Tighten electrical connectors and terminals according to manufacturer's


published torque-tightening values.

3.08 AFTER INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

A. Cleaning and Protection

1. Thoroughly clean plumbing fixtures and equipment.

2. Protect fixtures after they are set.

3. Do not permit use of fixtures.

3.09 PLACE IN SERVICE

A. Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.

3.10 TESTING

A. All sanitary fixtures shall be tested for non-leakage supply or drain.

B. Verify proper operation.
