IMDG CODE
 WTO
The WTO was born on January 1, 1995, but its trading system
has almost half a century of time. Since 1948, the General
Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) has established the rules
of the system.
The last and most important GATT round was the Uruguay
Round, between 1986 and 1994 when the WTO have been
created.
While the GATT had dealt with mainly from trade in goods, the
WTO and its Agreements cover currently trade in services, and
inventions, creations and drawings and models that are the
subject of commercial transactions.

• Implement, inspect and control the customs policy in the country and international
treaties and agreements.
• Facilitate customs foreign trade activities .
• Inspect the international movement of people and vehicles
• Develop measures to prevent and suppress the commission of customs offenses and
smuggling of goods shares .
• Leading initiatives and projects related to foreign trade logistics chain
WORLD CUSTOM ORGANIZATION
 WORLD CUSTOM ORGANIZATION
• For the purpose of assessment of customs duty, products are
given an identification code that has come to be known as
theHarmonized System code.
• This code was developed by the World Customs
Organization based in Brussels.
 HARMONIZED SYSTEM CODE

• HS CODE came into effect in 1988, and is organized into 21

sections and 98 chapters, accompanied with general rules of
interpretation and explanatory notes.

• They are the 6-digit numerical codes that describe “what” is

being shipped to and from countries

WHY HS CODE IS IMPORTANT?

 HARMONIZED SYSTEM CODE
• In most countries, importers and exporters are legally required to
declare their goods to Customs using HS codes.
• HS codes identify the rates of duty and tax that will be evaluated,
prohibitions or restrictions that might be imposed, and permits or
licenses that might be required.

the country members of the Andean community (NANDINA), considering the
