Chemical Engineering fluid
Aim:
We will learn about many methods for computing flow measurements in this report, conduct an
experiment on a hydrodynamic training (Hydraulic bench) device, and demonstrate how to
compute the volumetric flow rate and velocity for fluid and gas transportation.
Introduction:
The orifice meter, the nozzle meter, and the Venturi meter are the most common devices used to
measure the instantaneous flowrate. Each of these meters operates on the similar principle. As
the flow area in a pipe decreases, the flow velocity that is accompanied by a decrease in pressure
increases in a pipe. The correlation of pressure difference with the velocity is used to determine
for measuring the flow rate in a pipe. Bernoulli equation between points (1) and (2) shown in
Fig. 1 is applied by assuming no viscous effects and horizontal flow

Procedure:
1. Before turning on the pump, make sure there is enough water in the main storage tank.
2. Before turning on the pump, open the bypass valve to manage the flow rate, and close the
measurement store at the bottom.
3. To get the desired flow rate, turn on the pump and begin closing the bypass valve (NOT
the valve on the discharge stream must be open to transfer the water to the receiver)
4. The water will flow through the open flow channel from the hose to the metering tank.
5. When the water level in the measuring tank reaches a specific mark, the scales begin to
move. The stopwatch began at a distance of 10 cm.
6. Stop the stopwatch at 20 cm when the level reaches the mark.
7. Then turn off the pump and open the discharge opening at the measuring tank's bottom.
8. Now that we have the time and the warehouse dimensions for the accounts, let's get
started.
Data:
Stating level :10cm Stopping level :20cm
Time = 102.13 s
Length :70cm Width :30cm Height: 10cm
Calculation:
Now we can calculate (v) and (Q):
𝑸 = 𝑽 𝒕 ………………………equation (1)
𝑉 = 𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑡ℎ × 𝑤𝑖𝑑𝑡ℎ × ℎ𝑒𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡 = 70𝑐𝑚 × 30𝑐𝑚 × 10𝑐𝑚 = 21000𝑐𝑚3
𝑉 = 0.021 𝑚3
𝑸 = 𝟎.𝟎21𝒎3 /102.13𝒔 = 2.0562 × 𝟏𝟎-4 𝒎3/𝒔
𝑸 = 𝒗𝑨 =≫ 𝒗 = 𝑸 /𝑨 ……. equation (2)
𝐴 = 𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑔ℎ𝑡 × 𝑤𝑖𝑑𝑡ℎ = 70𝑐𝑚 × 30𝑐𝑚 = 2100𝑐𝑚2 = 0.21𝑚2
𝒗 = 2.0562 × 𝟏𝟎-4 / 𝟎.𝟐𝟏 = 9.7914 × 𝟏𝟎−𝟒 𝒎/s

Conclusion:
We learnt how to measure volumetric flow rate, discharge, and velocity using the hydraulic
bench method in this experiment; however, there are many more methods and innovations you
may measure with such (orifice plate, orbit, and radiation sensor) described in this experiment.
As we all know, discharge gauges are critical in enterprises, homes, and other places, particularly
in the transfer of crude oil and gas.
