BOOK EXTENSION ACTIVITY - LESSON PLAN

2. Objectives: SWBAT + Bloom’s verb


- Students will be able to list the different signs in the sky from the book
- Students will be able to create a drawing of their forever sky
- Students will be able to create a drawing of their version of the Northern Lights
- Students will be able to create a cut out body of themselves

3. Materials/Equipment:
- Construction paper
- Color pencils
- Watercolor paint
- Markers
- Pastels
- Scissors
- Popsicle sticks
- Glue
4. Teaching:
A. Plan for reading the book
- Carpet circle time to read the book aloud to the children
- Discuss the book’s illustrations and plot
- Ask students what their favorite illustration is
- Encourage and allow 5 minutes for students to ask any questions or to share any of their
experiences
- Ask students to go back to their seats to prepare for the activity

B. Plan for extension activity:


- Explain that students will create a drawing of themselves and decorate it to their liking
- Allow 20 minutes to draw themselves
- Explain that students will create a drawing of what their forever sky looks like
- Allow 20 minutes to draw their forever sky
- Explain that students will create a drawing of their Northern Lights
- Allow 20 minutes to draw the Northern Lights
- Pass out all the materials

5. Closure:
-Students will glue their drawing of themselves to the popsicle stick
- Students will show the class their popsicle stick in either the forever sky or
northern lights background
- Students will leave their drawings at their desks
- Student will be asked what they learned from the book
- Tell students that tomorrow we will be learning about sky formations throughout
the week.
