I am going to begin by getting up from
my desk and walking to the front of
the classroom facing all the students

Ms.Winters: GoodMorning Classroom. How


is everyone today?

Students: GoodMorning, everyone says


that they are good.

Ms.Winters: Okay everyone, I know


we’ve have been learning about the
decade. Last week got into the 90s, so
today we are going to talk about the
2000s decade era.
I am going to be talking about events,
political figures and elections,
emerging technology and inventions.
Classroom Daily Overview
Ms. Winters: After I go over the lesson
for today, we will be setting up new
ipads, once we are done setting up our
iPads you will be assigned a quiz.

Student: Will we be able to keep them?

Ms.Winters: Actually yes, you will be able


to take your ipad home for the remainder
of the year, but you must return it at the
end of the year.
Intro to lesson
Ms.Winters: Okay so let’s begin.
The year of 2000s. The end of a
decade and a beginning of a new one.
2000s - 2010s was a time for
evolution across america from the
first African-American President to
a devastating terrorist attack.
2000
Ms.Winters: In January the Y2K Scare was a
phenomenon at the turn of the 21st century where
computer users and programmers feared that computers
would stop working on December 31, 1999. The
phenomenon was also referred to as the "Millennium
Bug" or "Year 2000 problem" by technology experts.
2001
Ms.Winters: year of 2001 was a very hard time for
everyone with an event that cost almost 3,000
people lives. On September 11, 2001, 19 militants
associated with the Islamic extremist group al
Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out
suicide attacks against targets in the United
States. Two of the planes were flown into the twin
towers of the World Trade Center in New York City,
a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside
Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a
field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Student: My mom was just a baby when this happened,


but my grandma said that remember watching this on
the news. It was devastating. 2

2002
Ms.Winters: the year 2002 was quite a eventful year. To
begin with, January 5 a 15-year-old student pilot, crashes
a light aircraft into a Tampa, Florida building, evoking
fear of a copycat 9/11 terrorist attack.

Student: how many people died?

Ms.Winters: Actually just himself. No others were hurt.

Ms.Winters: May 10 FBI agent Robert Hanssen is sentenced to


life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for
selling American secrets to Moscow for $1.4 million in cash
and diamonds.He told Moscow secret such as America’s
nuclear operations and the existence of an FBI-built tunnel
underneath the Soviet Embassy in Washington.
2003
MS.Winters The Space Shuttle Columbia
disaster takes place on February 1st.
NASA’s STS-107 mission carried seven crew
members (Rick Husband, William McCool,
David Brown, Kalpana Chawla, Michael
Anderson, Laurel Clark, and Ilan Ramon)
into space where they conducted scientific
experiments for 16 days. The Columbia
disintegrated upon re-entry, tragically
killing all on board. The disaster was
likely caused by damage taken to the left
wing during the launch when a piece of foam
hit the wing. Following the catastrophe,

2004
Ms. Winters: The citizens of the US
re-elect George W. Bush. Ronald Reagan,
the 40th President of the United
States, dies at his home in Bel-Air,
California. A six-day state funeral
follows after his death.

Student: How old was he ?

Ms.Winters:93. Also A videotape of


Osama bin Laden speaking airs on Arabic
TV, in which he threatens terrorist
attacks on the United States and taunts
President George W. Bush over the
September 11 terrorist attacks.
2005
Ms.Winters: OKay coming into the year
2005 was a devastating disaster Hurricane
Katrina was a Category 5 tropical cyclone
that occurred in August 2005, which
caused $125 billion in damage,
particularly in the city of New Orleans
and the surrounding areas, and over 1,200
deaths.
2007
Ms.Winters On June 29, 2007, the first iPhone was
released. On June 11, 2007, Apple announced at the
Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference that the
iPhone would support third party applications using
the Safari engine. I remember I was around the 2nd
or 3rd grade when it first came out. My mother had
one and having an Iphone in that time what the next
big things.It was like the next chocolate phone or
sidekick.

Students: how much did it cost?

Ms.Winters The retail starting price for it was


$499+ which is not bad considering the $1000+ phones
we have today
2008
Ms.Winters: In 2008 that was a phenomenal change to the
United States government that has never happened
before. Does anyone know what happened?

Student: Barack Obama was elected!

Ms.Winters On November 4, 2008, Obama defeated the


Republican nominee, Senator John McCain of Arizona.

Later that year On December 5 OJ Simpson was convicted


for a minimum of nine years of various charges related
to an attempt to retrieve sporting memorabilia at
gunpoint. Fourteen years after he was controversially
acquitted of murdering his wife and her lover,

Ms.Winters: Along with the new IPhone release
3 years ago comes the New IPad. The Wi-Fi
version of the iPad went on sale in the United
States on April 3, 2010. The Wi-Fi + 3G
version was released on April 30.The Apple
iPad retailed at $499 (US) for the 16GB model,
$599 (US) for the 32GB model, $699 (US) for
the 64GB model.

Ms. Winters: Okay class now that we have gone over this we will begin to set up our
iPads with a partner .

Student: Can we choose our partner?

Ms.Winters: yes, you can. Now I will start by handing out the boxes to you all you.
Along with handing out iPads I will have some of you guys hand outs paper that will
tell you step by step how to get your iPad. during this process I will be calling
you one by one up to my desk so I put a school sticker and write down the serial
number.

Student: Why do you have to write down the serial number?

Ms.Winters: Excellent question! I need to write down the serial number to be able to
make sure that when the end of the year comes you return the correct IPad to the
school.
Ms.Winters: Once you and your partner are finished, I want you to individually pick up
one the research quizzes at the front table and complete it. For this quizzes I want
it you use the iPad you get Setup to gather information about the questions

Students: We can‘t work in partner on the test?

Ms.Winters: No, You may not.
