Adriana jones, 1-2nd period, Harker Heights


Topic: Imagery poetry
TEK(s): TEKS (Including student expectation statement:110.2(9)(D): Response Skills: discuss with
adult assistance how the author uses words that help the reader visualize.

Instructional The students will discuss how the author uses words that helps the reader
Objective: visualize.

Learning Target: I can discuss how the author uses words that help me see images of
poetry with adult assistance.

Introduction/ Kindergarten, Recess Creek elementary school, Ms. Waters, 1 hour


duration (length of lesson)
Resources/ Pencil, recoding sheet, color pencils
Materials:
How will you I will have the class close their eyes and listen to the words I am
introduce your saying, it will be very detailed words and I will have them imagine what
lesson? are some of the words that help them feel and think. They will do all this
in their mind.
What is your I will have a whole group, and in front of the class I will tell them how I
instructional delivery feel and think about the poem I will be reading to them. I will use an
method? anchor chart as I read the poem and draw pictures of what I am
imagining when I read and discuss with students as I am doing this.
Guided Practice I will have a poem Cutten out in strips glued on Contruction paper. I will
go around and pass out one to each student. I will first demonstrate by
reading one of the strips of paper with a poem on it and visualize and
describe what I imagine from what I have just read, then I will have them
read the strip of poem they received as well and have them visualize
what they have read. After they have each visualized what they read, I
will have them turn to a partner and share an draw what they visualized
with their partner.
Individual Practice I will then have each student go to their seat and I pass them out a
recording sheet, on the recording sheet they will draw what they
visualized based off the poem that I have read to them.
Closure Class goes back over what we have learned for the day, reminds them the
importance of visualizing and remembering the images that they have
drawn and why.
Assessment: Students will each individually get a paper with a poem on it and will
have to draw what they visualize and think based off what they read.
