EXPERIMENT 2

Name:-Dhruv Sameer Dalvi

Roll No.:-194130031
Branch:-DELne
AIM:-To study time response of second order RLC circuit.

Apparatus:-Resistor, Capacitor, Inductor, Step Voltage source,

Ground.
Theory:- The response of second order system completely
depends on value of τ. When is less than 1 then that system is
underdamped. When τ is equal to 1 then that system is
critically damped. When τ is greater than 1 then that system is
overdamped.

Formula:-
𝑅
τ = (√𝐶 ⁄𝐿 )
2

Circuit Diagram:-
Observation:-
1) When R=40Ω

2) When R=200Ω
3) When R=1KΩ

Calculation:-
1) When R=40Ω
τ = 40/2 (√1×10^-6/10×10^-3)
= 0.2 (Less than 1)

2) When R=200Ω
τ = 200/2 (√1×10^-6/10×10^-3)
= 1 (Equal to 1)

3) When R=1kΩ
τ= (1×10^3)/2 (√1×10^-6/10×10^-3)
= 5(Greater than 1)
Observation Table:-

Sr.No. Value of Resistor (R) Observed system

response

1. 40Ω Underdamped
2. 200Ω Critically damped
3. 1KΩ Overdamped

Conclusion:- Hence, response of second order RLC circuit for

different values of τ is observed.
