TRIGONOMETRY
PRESENTATION BY DIYA JAIN
WHAT IS MEANT BY APPLICATIONS OF TRIGONOMETRY
Trigonometry was invented because its need arose in
astronomy. Since then the astronomers have used it, for
instance, to calculate distances from the earth to the planets
and stars. Trigonometry is also used in geography and in
navigation. The knowledge of trigonometry is used to
construct maps, determine the position of an island in relation
to the longitudes and latitudes.
USES OF TRIGONOMETRY IN OUR LIFE
1. Trigonometry to Measure Height of a Building or
a Mountain
2. Trigonometry in Aviation
3. Trigonometry in Navigation
4. Trigonometry in Criminology
5. Trigonometry in Marine Biology
Trigonometry to Measure Height of a Building
or a Mountain
Trigonometry is used to in
measuring the height of a building
or a mountain. The distance of a
building from the viewpoint and the
elevation angle can easily determine
the height of a building using the
trigonometric functions.
Example
Trigonometry is used
in aviation
extensively, both in
the calculations
Trigonometry in performed by the
machines and computers
aviation
used by the pilots,
and by pilots
performing quick
rudimentary
calculations and
estimates themselves.
Example
Air speed of an aeroplane is 400 km/hr. The wind is blowing at 200 km/hr towards east
direction. In what direction should the pilot try to fly the plane so as to move exactly
towards north east
Trigonometry is used to
set directions such as
the north south east
west, it tells you what
Cos 35° = x
600
x = 491 Km
