What is Aesthetics:

 The term ‘Aesthetics’ concerns our senses and

our responses to an object.

 Aesthetics is important in competitive point of

view.

 Visual appearance includes: Shape, color,

packing, presentation etc.

 The goal is to design products that ensures ease

of use, safety and comfort from the moment one
looks at it or touches it.
DIXIE NACRCO DN501E
VENDING MACHINE
Introduction:

The Dixie Narco 501E drink

vending machine is one of
the most popular machines
on the market. Equipped
with extra plating on the
selection panel, bill acceptor,
lock, and additional hasps so
more external locks can be
added, this machine has
been modified for much
higher resistance to
vandalism. Ideal for an
outdoor location with the
possibility of exposure to
inappropriate treatment. The
selections are also priced
individually so all nine
selections can be anything
from twelve-ounce cans
through twenty-ounce
bottles without an issue.

Shape (form) :

The design of a vending

machine is in shear form
which requires least ground
area to install. The
dimensions of this particular
vending machine are:

Height = 72’’

Width = 37’’

Depth = 35’’
Symmetry and balance:
Y
The vending machine is
symmetrical about vertical and
horizontal axis. But because of
functional requirements we
have to place a slot for coin and
note acceptor and also we have
Z to provide a screen and
switches for selection of
different products to be sold.
We also have to provide
window to receive the product.
While adding these
asymmetrical elements we
have to take care, so that these
X elements will form a balance in
symmetry and asymmetry.
Thus it won’t affect the
aesthetics of vending machine.
Colour:

The colour of the vending machine is

predetermined on basis of the owner or
the company. But, usually the scheme of
these vending machine is blue(Pepsi),
green(Sprite), or red(Coca Cola). The blue
colour represents - peace, trust and
confidence, the green represents nature,
health and freshness while red represents
passion, excitement and energy. This
colour psychology is used to increase its
aesthetic appeal of vending machine.
Variety:

Variety in the vending machine is

due to different colour panels
used as shown previously.

CONTRAST;

The emphasis
created by the black
coloured column
which housed coin
and note acceptor
and also the screen
and switches
creates a great
contrast to colours
to colours usually
used
e.g. red, blue, green
Material & Surface Finish:

A vending machine is
manufactured from
galvanised steel of 10-
22 gauge thickness,
plastic such as lexan,
acrylic powder coatings
and polyurethane
insulation. These
materials gives a
smooth and glossy
finish and gives
ERGONOMICS:

FRONT PANEL OF
VENDING MACHINE :

 The vending machine is designed in such way that

the height is optimal for teenagers as well as
adults. The height of coin and note accepter is
115 cm approximately, which is easily accessible
for adults as well as teenagers.
 Below it, are several buttons for selection for
drinks which are available for sell. In front of each
button a small picture of the drink is placed for
the buyer to know and decide which one to buy.
 At the bottom part, there is a large package
delivery port. The blank front panel is usually
covered with vinyl graphic sheet.
Hardware Configuration:

• The hardware configuration for the SII(series 2)

Controller consists of a main control board and a
display board. The select
• panel consists of low voltage switches. The sold-
out indicators utilize LED technology. The select
switches and sold-out indicators interface directly
to the main controller.
• The motors used on the stack are 115 VAC type.
The vend switches and sold-out switches are low
voltage type. There is only one vend switch per
motor and one sold-out switch per column. The
motors, vend switches, and sol-dout switches
interface directly to the main controller board.
• The Main Controller consists of two boards
stacked on top of each other. The top board
consists of all the intelligence, memory, switch
interfaces, and stack interface (motors, vend
switches, and sold-out switches). The bottom
board has the peripheral interfaces which include
coin changers, dollar bill validators, Dex interface
and debit systems.
FEATURES:

• Low Voltage Select Panel – The select

panel consists of gold cross-point
switches and bright-red LEDS for sold-
out indicators. The interface circuitry is
located on the controller board.
• Programmable Space To Sales -
Programmable space to sales is a
feature which allows select buttons to
be ganged (operated simultaneously as
a group). Columns are dispensed evenly
when more than one select button
contains the same product.
• Select Panel Controller Programming -
The SII vender has the capability to be
programmed through the select panel.
The SII vender can also be programmed
through the Dex port with the same
hand-held used to access the accounting
data.
• Price Display - If all selections are set at
the same vend price, in primary pricing
and secondary pricing, the vend price is
shown on the display. If multi-pricing is
used, pressing any select button shows
the vend price of that particular selection
on the display
• Single Price or Multi-Price via Select Panel
- Prices for each selection can be
programmed either through the front
select panel or through the Dex hand-held
device. For single price configuration, each
selection has to be programmed for the
same price since single-price coin
changers are not supported.
• Limited Access on Selection (Time, Days,
Price) - The limited access feature allows
each selection to be inhibited with respect
to time and selected days of the week.
Also, prices of selections can be altered
(Happy Hour) with respect to time and
selected days of the week
