RESEARCH FULL TITLE

Introduction

The main body of the paper starts with the introduction wherein the problem or

issue that the paper addresses is indicated. The rationale of the study is clearly stated.

As with all parts of the paper, it is typed in 12-point font size, left indented (not justified),

and double spaced. Most commonly used font styles are Times New Roman and Arial;

1-inch margin throughout the paper all sides. The future tense is used for research

proposals and the past tense for the final draft/output.

Review of Related Literature and Studies

The review of related literature, also referred to as literature review, immediately

follows the introduction, no headings are necessary. It provides a background of the

study through the different articles, studies, etc. used for the study that are relative to

the current problem/issue at hand. It should cover all variables of the study. Different

information sources can be used in any research paper. Any source used in the

development of the topic should be cited to prevent issues such as plagiarism.

It is important to remember the following when creating in-text citations:

a. Author/creator of the work (last name) and the publication date are essential,

example;

Yunas (2015), in his study….

It was provided that…. (Yunas, 2015)

SHORTENED VERSION OF THE PAPER’S FULL TITLE 4

b. If a body of work (article) has three or more authors, write out all the authors’

names (family name only) the first time they appear. Use the first author’s

last name followed by “et. al.” in subsequent citations, example;

Dela Cruz, Miranda, Gomez, Dizon (2013) inferred that…

This is similar with the findings of Dela Cruz, et. al. (2013)…

c. Direct quotations should include author’s name, publication date, and page

number/s; , example;

“You cannot give…” as stated by Tolentino (2010, p.10).

It “provides information on….” (Cruz, 2010, pp.10-15).

Theoretical or Conceptual Framework

Decide which framework to use: theoretical or conceptual. Both can also be

used.

Theoretical perspective/framework provides a strong underpinning or substantive

explanation or foundation of the main/central questions of the study; theory to back-up

the study; theories used should be well-cited.

The conceptual framework explains the main things to be studied, the key

factors, constructs or variables and their inter-relationship with each other; includes an

illustration/graphical representation, commonly labelled as Figure 1.

Research Questions

State the objective/s of the study; from general to specific. For research

proposals, the future tense is used and the past tense for the final output.

NOTE: (Quantitative Sample) To illustrate:

SHORTENED VERSION OF THE PAPER’S FULL TITLE 5

This study will seek to ___________ (state general objective). Specifically, it will

attempt to answer the following: (enumerate specific objectives)

1. Q1

2. Q2

3. Q3 (and so on..)

Hypothesis ( if the study requires only)

Present the hypothesis of the study here, such that:

Variable A does not significantly differ when grouped according to other

variables.

There is no significant relationship between Variable A and Variable B.

Example:

The factors that can influence job satisfaction do not affect the overall job satisfaction level of

librarians in Holy Angel University.

Significance of the Study

This part provides information on who will benefit from this study–administrators,

students/pupils, personnel, future researchers, etc.–and, how will it be beneficial to

them. For this part of the paper, use the future tense for research proposals and

present tense for the final output. Here is a suggested template/format:

This study will be beneficial to ______ (state who will benefit) as it can ______

(state how is the study beneficial).

Scope and Limitation of the Study

SHORTENED VERSION OF THE PAPER’S FULL TITLE 6

What is the coverage of the study? The scope is determined by the respondents,

variables/factors of the study. The future tense is used for research proposals and the

past tense for the final output. Decide which of the two (Limitation or Delimitation) is

suited to your study, and use the term in the sub-heading appropriately. Limitations

present the weak points of the study. Delimitations points out or is setting the

boundaries of the study. To illustrate:

The study will focus on _______ ( the main topic of the paper) in order to _____ ( the

target/foreseen output). It will be limited (or delimited) on ________ (indicate the specific

area of focus). It will include selected ________ ( indicate participants/respondents) in the

_________ (locale of the study) as of the _______ (state period covered).

Method

In this part, the procedures and processes to be undertaken by the researchers

to finish the study are reflected. The research type, sample and sampling procedure,

respondents of the study, research instruments, data collection, ethical considerations

and analysis of data are discussed.

Type of Research

The research design/method is indicated in this part of the paper. Remember to

use the future tense for research proposals and the past tense for the final output.

Example:

This study will employ a true experimental design, specifically a two-group pre-test, post test

study design.
SHORTENED VERSION OF THE PAPER’S FULL TITLE 7

Respondents

The participants in this study will be _______ ( discuss in this section who are the

target participants of the study; if a sample population will be used, indicate the sample size and

sampling technique). Example:

The participants in this study will be ___ (indicate number) ___ (indicate grade / year level)

pupils/students in _______________ (indicate name of school), ___ (indicate number) of which were

randomly assigned to the experimental group and ____ (indicate number) to the control group.

The experimental group will be ... (describe the intervention to be used – how will the intervention be

done? for how long? etc.) while the control group will be taught using the traditional method of teaching.

Sampling Method

Details should be provided about who will participate in the research : number of

people and the characteristics of those who will participate in the research; and how will

the sample be selected and recruited.

Proposed Innovation Intervention Strategy

Sources of Data

The sources of the data and information in this study will come from the

responses of the _____________________________________.

Instrument

Indicate tools/instruments used for the study such as questionnaires, interview

schedule, etc.;example:
SHORTENED VERSION OF THE PAPER’S FULL TITLE 8

For the pretest and posttest, a (choose one from the following: teacher-made test/ standardized

test from the DepEd Division / Regional / National Office will be used (Appendix D).

For self-made instruments/tools, development and validation process should also

be stated. As for the use of standardized test, cite the sources.

Data Collection Procedure

Discuss in this section the data gathering procedures. How will you gather data?

Example:

Initially, a pretest will be done to determine the baseline level of the study participants on the

________ (dependent variable). The pretest scores of the participants from the control and experimental

groups will then be compared using appropriate statistical procedures to ensure baseline comparability.

The intervention will then be applied to the experimental group while the control group will be

taught using the usual method of teaching. After _____ (how long the intervention will be done), a posttest

will be conducted.

Ethical Considerations

Researchers shall seek the approval of the Schools Division Superintendent of

the Division of Mabalacat City on the conduct of the study.

An informed consent letter will be issued to the participants of the study. The

researcher will also conduct orientation on the nature of the study, the risk and benefits,

the right to withdraw and withhold information. When participants signed the consent

form, they acknowledged participation in the study and understood their rights were

protected (Creswell, 2003).

SHORTENED VERSION OF THE PAPER’S FULL TITLE 9

Researchers shall explain to the participants the confidentiality of their

participation in the study that their names would not be disclosed to any outside party

with the potential of publication.

Data Analysis

Present how you plan to analyze gathered data, including the statistical

techniques and tools you will use, as such:

The pretest scores (or grades from previous grading periods) of the randomly selected control

and experimental groups will be compared using independent t test (if the data are normally distributed)

or Mann Whitney test (if the data are not normally distributed). Moreover, if the pretest scores are

normally distributed, a variance ratio test will be performed to determine whether t test for groups with

equal or unequal variance will be used.

If the pretest scores of the two randomly selected groups turn out to be significantly different,

another group of pupils/students will have to be selected and the pretest scores will again be compared.

The final control and experimental groups should be comparable at baseline in terms of ____ (the

dependent variable).

After the intervention, the posttest scores will also be compared following the same procedures

mentioned for the pretest scores.

P-values less than 0.05 will be considered statistically significant. Statistical computations will be

performed using Stata.

Work Plan/Timetable/Gantt Chart

Contains the research timelines –when will the project begin and how long will it

take for it to be completed ; include time estimates for each step in the research process

Findings

This section presents the findings of the study. It usually contains tabulated (for

quantitative data) or categorized (for qualitative data) results.

In presenting results using tables, the following guidelines may be helpful:

a. Number all tables with arabic numerals sequentially. Do not use suffix letters

(e.g. Table 3a, 3b, 3c); instead, combine the related tables. If the manuscript

includes an appendix with tables, identify them with capital letters and arabic

numerals (e.g. Table A1, Table B2).

b. Like the title of the paper itself, each table must have a clear and concise title.

When appropriate, you may use the title to explain an abbreviation

parenthetically.

Example: Profile of the Respondents

c. Keep headings clear and brief. The heading should not be much wider than

the widest entry in the column. Use of standard abbreviations can aid in
SHORTENED VERSION OF THE PAPER’S FULL TITLE 26

achieving that goal. All columns must have headings, even the stub column

(see example structure), which customarily lists the major independent

variables.

d. In reporting the data, consistency is key: Numerals should be expressed to a

consistent number of decimal places that is determined by the precision of

measurement. Never change the unit of measurement or the number of

decimal places in the same column.

The following illustrates the basic structure of tables:
