FUNDAMENTALS OF WEAVING
IDM SEM V

BASIC WEAVE

WEAVING - interlacement of warp yarns and weft yarns

KNITTING - Interlooping of warp and weft yarns
The lengthwise or longitudinal warp yarns are ends
The transverse weft yarns are picks.

PLAIN WEAVE
In plain weave, the threads interlace in alternate order. Each weft
thread crosses the warp threads by going alternately, first over
one warp, then under the next, and so on. The next weft goes
under the warp that the neighboring weft went over, and again so
on.
The minimum no. of ends required is 2/2.
A balanced plain weave is in which the warp threads and the weft
threads are equally spaced or the ends and picks are placed at
equal intervals.

For every warp that is lifted up the respective horizontal and
vertical line will not contain any more warps lifted up
