PUMP

A pump is a device that moves fluids liquids or gases, or

sometimes slurries by mechanical action, typically converted from electrical
energy into hydraulic energy. Pumps can be classified into three major
groups according to the method they use to move the fluid.

TYPES OF PUMP
FUNCTION OF PUMP

The operating principle of the pump is to convert mechanical energy

to pressure. In operation, a rotating impeller accelerates a liquid and as
the area of the pump casing expands the velocity of the fluid is
converted to pressure. As a result pressurized fluid exits the pump
discharge.

APPLICATION PUMP
 Pumping water from the wells.
 Aquarium and pond filtering.

 Water cooling and fuel injection in automobiles.

 Pumping oil or gas and operating cooling towers in energy industry.

They also have their uses in waste water recycling, pulp and paper,
chemical industry etc.

HEAT EXCHANGER

A heat exchanger is a system used to transfer heat between two or more

fluids. Heat exchangers are used in both cooling and heating processes. The
fluids may be separated by a solid wall to prevent mixing or they may be
in direct contact.
TYPES OF HEAT ECHANGERS

DOBULE PIPE HEAT EXCHANGER:

Double-pipe heat exchangers are devices that provide the transfer of
thermal energy between two fluids at different temperatures. The major
use of these heat exchangers is the sensible heating or cooling process of
fluids where small heat transfer areas are required. The oil cooler is an
example of these processes.

APPLICATION:

 The double pipe exchanger is used in the compressors and boiler

because they have very high pressure and temperature.
 Cooling and heating systems of the process plant.
 Wastewater treatment.
 Refrigeration.
 Oil refining.
SHELL AND TUBE:
As its name implies, this type of heat exchanger consists of a shell (a large
pressure vessel) with a bundle of tubes inside it. One fluid runs through the
tubes, and another fluid flows over the tubes (through the shell) to transfer
heat between the two fluids.

APPLICATIONS:
 Power Generation.
 HVAC.
 Marine Applications.
 Pulp and Paper.
 Refrigeration.
 Pharmaceuticals.
 Air Processing and Compressor Cooling.
 Metals and Mining.

COILED TYPE:
A coil heat exchanger is a type of heat exchanger, a device used to transfer
or exchange heat or thermal energy with the help of coils.

APPLICATION:

The Coil Type Heat Exchanger applications of copper are in electrical

wires, roofing and plumbing and industrial machinery.

REACTORS
A chemical reactor is an enclosed volume in which a chemical reaction
takes place. In chemical engineering, it is generally understood to be a
process vessel used to carry out a chemical reaction, which is one of the
classic unit operations in chemical process analysis.
TYPES OF REACTORS:

 The batch reactor,
 The continuous stirred-tank reactor (CSTR), and
 The plug flow tubular reactor (PFR).

APPLICATION:
Chemical engineers design reactors to maximize net present value for
the given reaction. Designers ensure that the reaction proceeds with the
highest efficiency towards the desired output product, producing the
highest yield of product while requiring the least amount of money to
purchase and operate.

FUNCTION:

A chemical reactor is an enclosed volume in which a chemical reaction

takes place. In chemical engineering, it is generally understood to be a
process vessel used to carry out a chemical reaction, which is one of the
classic unit operations in chemical process analysis.
