ABSTRACT
Water monitor lizards (V. salvator) are a part of family varanidae that able to live in
various habitats. Hence these species has wide distribution and able to adapt in human living.
Same like as other species, these species can interact with other species that living together
with them. There are some interaction between V. salvator and other species or part of other
species such as; saprotrophic and predation. In several literature founded that in food webs
these species can become prey, predator, and detrivore. Various character in these species
depend on place/habitat and species that living together with these species.
V. salvator took up detrivore will change their feeding behavior from diurnal to
nocturnal when living together with other predators. These species generally feed Carcass of
pig and medium mammals. V. salvator can become predator to some taxa, such as Pisces,
amphibian, reptile, and mammal. In some case, these species also took up prey to otter,
crocodile, and boar.
Spesies: Varanus salvator (Laurenti, Sri Lanka
1768) V. salvator andamanensis (Deraniyagala,
V. salvator dikenal juga dengan 1944), dari pulau Anadaman
berbagai sebutan diantaranya Common Water V. salvator bivittatus (Kuhl, 1820) dari
Monitor, Hydrosaurus salvator (Laurenti, Jawa, Bali, Lombok, Flores, Alor, Wetar
1768), dan Monitor nigricans (Cuvier, 1829). dan tepian pantai pulau kecil
Jenis ini juga memiliki cukup banyak V. salvator macromaculatus
(Deraniyagala, 1944), dari daratan asia
