In Another World

No one is perfect so do not get blinded by their appearance and actions because you

might get disillusioned. In “Young Goodman Brown,” by Nathaniel Hawthorne is an

article including faith, politics, and the hypocrisy of people. When you notice the truth it

is hard to accept it because you see them one way by how they act, look, and more in

front of you and would not be able to imagine them another way. In “Young Goodman

Brown,” it is giving us an interpretation on how people can be two faced and demonstrate

someone they really aren’t towards you and really be someone completely different.

To Young Goodman Brown his wife is perfect. His wife is named faith and wears

pink ribbons on her cap. He believes that she is an angel on earth and deserves to go to

heaven. According to the text, “she's a blessed angel on earth; and after this one night, I'll

cling to her skirts and follow her to Heaven.” He is happily in love with her and has so

much faith in her. “My love and my Faith.” Would all this love and faith that he has of

her last for long?

Young Goodman Brown was cruising around and took a dull road that was so

darkened by the gloomiest trees of the forest. It was a lonely road that all he could hear

were his footsteps. Every step of the way he kept looking back and forward. It was just

the beginning of the journey, but Young Goodman Brown was indecisive on whether or

not he should take the road because his father didn’t take it nor his grandfather. Was he

going to be the first Brown to take that road? On his way through the road he met with

different people. Young Goodman Brown passed through the forest and caught hold of a

tree for support because he was “getting ready to sink down on the ground, faint and

over - burthened with the strong sickness of his heart.” He was looking up to the sky

doubting about there being a real heaven above him. “With Heaven above, and Faith

below, I will yet stand firm against the devil!” cried Goodman Brown.” Young Goodman

Brown looked up and prayed. He kept hearing voices, but there was this specific voice

that caught his attention of this young woman. “Faith!” shouted Goodman Brown, in a

voice of agony and desperation; and the echoes of the forest mocked him, crying “Faith!

Faith!” as if bewildered wretches were seeking her, all through the wilderness.” There

was a scream that drowned immediately in a louder voices and then leading to laughter.

Something fell slowly through the air, and caught on the branch of a tree. Young

Goodman Brown grabbed it and noticed it was a pink ribbon. “My Faith is gone!”

Young Goodman Brown was devastated that he stated, “There is no good on earth;

and sin is but a name. Come, devil! for to thee is this world given.” Young Goodman

Brown was rushing looking for his wife and came across the congregation. “Welcome,

my children,” said the dark figure.” “Depending upon one another's hearts, ye had still

hoped that virtue were not all a dream! Now are ye undeceived! Evil is the nature of

mankind. Evil must be your only happiness. Welcome, again, my children, to the

communion of your race!” They were prepared to lay the mark of baptism upon their

foreheads not knowing if it was blood, a liquid flame, or more. Young Goodman Brown

looked at his pale wife and Faith at him.“Faith! Faith!” cried the husband. “Look up to

Heaven, and resist the Wicked One!”

No one is perfect and you shouldn’t have that mindset. If something occurs you can

get disillusioned because they aren’t the picture perfect you imagined. Not because they

aren’t perfect they are bad people and you shouldn’t be around them because everyone

makes mistakes and people should accept them the way they are even if it takes time.
