1. What are your observation of the subject and technical aspect of the film?

As someone who has seen the film Four Sisters and a Wedding and witnessed countless

imitations of it on school role-plays, in terms of technical aspects, I'd say there's nothing

particularly remarkable about it as the plot focuses on family and sibling ties, there's no need for

the production team to include any special effects, CGI, or other such. Furthermore, the plot is

delightfully comedic, and there were balanced consideration for both the parent and the

children. The cast was excellent, and I felt the story was overall pretty moving. It depicted

various family relationships and how they go about their daily lives.

2. Can you discuss whether the Filipino films now are better now that they were before?

In what way?

Frankly, I don't watch Filipino movies very often, mainly due to the fact that most new movies

that come out these days have a rather popular and typical plot, which is either poor girl meets

rich guy or straight blatant infidelity. Although the mainstream media may be getting a bit okay

on average, I believe there are more and better films (Indie) being released throughout almost

every year. Some are even gaining international recognition. This is attributable, in part, to the

fact that more movies are being released annually and by that filmmaking is becoming more

accessible to a broader range of professionals. The emphasis on life and important subjects is

also evolving in the content.

There's nothing wrong with cliché stuff or romance, but I’m glad movies like Metro Manila,

Heneral Luna, and Goyo: Ang batang heneral exist.

3. Prove that some Filipino films are considered world class

Philippine filmmaking has not gone unnoticed in recent years. The following are some films that

have claimed huge prizes at some of the world's most prominent film festivals:

 Metro Manila, a film starring and co-produced by Filipinos has won the Audience Award

at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. The movie was recognized at the awarding

ceremony held Saturday night (US time) under the World Cinema Dramatic Competition.

The film was in the same category as 11 other films from other countries that include

Chile, South Korea, Austria, Afghanistan, and Germany.

 Die Beautiful, starring: Paolo Ballesteros, Joel Torre, Gladys Reyes, Luis Alandy, and

Albie Casino. Now part of the Metro Manila Film Festival. This movie made it to the

Tokyo International Film Festival, where it won the Audience Choice Award. Paolo

Ballesteros also bagged the Best Actor award in the same festival, as well as at the 21st

Kerala International Film Festival in India.

 Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis (A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery). This 8- hour film from

Lav Diaz is an epic drama that features a crossover of history and folklore. This film won

the Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival, an award

given to a film that “opens new perspective on cinematic art.”
