Physical Characteristics

Geography
- In general, Koronadal has a level to gently
sloping terrain, or 50.18% of the total land
area is predominantly flat

Topography
Koronadal has several distinct physiographic features. The
mountain ranges of Roxas and Quezon surround the city with
their peaks reaching as high as 700-800 meters above sea
level and gradually dropping towards the center of the city.

This city has a tropical climate. The average annual temperature is 25.9 °C |
78.6 °F in Koronadal. About 1824 mm | 71.8 inch of precipitation falls annually

Ancestral Origin

The name Koronadal originated from two B'laan words koron or


kolon meaning cogon grass and nadal or datal meaning plain. In the
past, the place was called Marbel which comes from B'laan word that
means murky waters. Such names best described the place when the
City was inhabited by the natives.

History
It was on August 18, 1947 when President Manuel Roxas signed the
Executive Order creating the municipalities in the entire province of
South Cotabato, one of which was Koronadal.
Koronadal was converted into a component city of South Cotabato,
now known as the City of Koronadal by virtue of Republic Act 8803
on October 8, 2000. At present, Koronadal is a fast developing
growth center composed of twenty seven (27) barangays including
the four (4) zones in the poblacion.

Koronadal, officially the City of Koronadal (Hiligaynon:


Dakbanwa sang Koronadal; Maguindanaon: Ingud nu
Koronadal), and also known as Marbel, is a 3rd class
component city and capital of the province of South Cotabato,
Philippines.

It is the capital of the province of South Cotabato and


regional administrative center of Soccsksargen (Region XII).
Koronadal City is one of the Planned Cities of the
Philippines that were signed by congress on 1965.

Education in Koronadal is widely distributed to all
Koronadaleños. As of for the school year 2009–2010,
there are 95 primary and elementary schools in the
city, both in public and private schools; while there are
17 secondary schools, both in public and private
schools.

affect the mental, emotional, social and physical
health of its residents? Cite Examples.

Yes, it can affect the health of the residents in general as the


physical states of the community includes presence of garbages,
waste management, beauty of the place and etc. For example,
presence of floods during heavy rains can increase the risk of
acquiring illnesses from water-borne diseases and by vectors. Also,
having beautiful scenery affects the mood of the residents.
2. Is this statement true: “ It is impossible to eliminate
community customs but not difficult to modify them”?
Explain your answer.

The statement is definitely true because we cannot change the


customs, traditons and attitude considering that it has been
impracticed for a long time. However, there are chances that it can
be modified, improved , or strengthen for the benefit of the
community, though it will take time patience and effort.
3. What constitutes the community in which you live?
The community I live in is made up with the most talented, diversed and
resilient people. It is made up of people with unique ideas and personalities.
Aside from these, it is constituted by its growing economy that arise from its
humble beginnings. Also, the community is made up of rules set to us in
order to maintain peace and order. It offers lots of opputunities for
everyone. Still, the heart of the community , is the people.
