Introduction of new tools for working with clutches and

flywheels

Background Service solution

Due to problems with tool 98 400, Scania has The service solution is divided into 6 sections:
developed a new tool consisting of 99 644, 99
645, 99 646 and 99 647. The new tool must be • General
used when lifting gearboxes, Scania retarders, • Standard clutch
transfer gearboxes, torque converters, central
gears, hub reduction gears, clutches, flywheels, • EK clutch
planetary gears, propeller shafts, hubs, brake
calipers and retarder oil coolers. • Flywheel

This TI only applies to clutches and flywheels.

Information about other components will be re-
leased continuously.
Scania recommends replacing tool 98 400 with
the new tool since the new tool is safer and
adapted for new and future products. Scania will
also make available a new high lift 588 966 with
a better adapted work height.

* Tool 99 644 fits gearbox jacks distributed by Scania. If another type of gearbox jack is used,
another base bracket must be used; see tool sheet for 99 645.

The above combination of lifting tools is used

for lifting components.

Application

The lifting tools are secured to the component

as follows. All screws must be tightened ac-
cording to Scania's standard tightening torque,
except the screws for locking the central brack-
ets and base bracket against the central beam.
These should be tightened to 30 Nm.

Limitations

Maximum load:
Component Weight (kg)
Standard clutch 101
EK clutch 101
Flywheel 101

It is not permissible to use the lifting tools in

any way other than the ways set out in the fol-
lowing instructions.

Maintenance

Before use, check the lifting tools for damage,

deformation and wear.

Test factor

1.5 static.

WARNING!

Always secure the vehicle against collapsing

before starting work. There is a serious danger
of crushing. Both the chassis and moving axle
suspension components must be secured with
stands to ensure absolute safety when working
under a raised vehicle.
If the vehicle has air suspension, the air bellows
must be emptied before starting work.
Only move a loaded gearbox jack with the load
in the lowest possible position.
When lowering, make sure that nothing catches
and damages the gearbox jack, component or
the lifting tool.
Be aware of the risk of crushing when lowering 1. Front sliding bracket

1. Attach the base bracket on the gearbox jack

587 313 or 588 966.

2. Attach the front sliding bracket edge to

edge to the central beam with the brake cal-
iper lugs turned downwards. Push the cen-
tral beam so that the sliding bracket moves
towards the base bracket and attach the cen-
tral beam to the base bracket.

justable stays (the shorter model) on the
front sliding bracket.
Pull up the stay so that the screw ends up in
the groove end and use 2 anti-slip devices
on each stay.

Preparations:

A metal cover for a clutch is required in order to

lift a flywheel.

Remove the pressure plate and spring from a

used clutch. Save the metal cover as a special
tool for lifting the flywheel.

so that the beam is protruding equally at the
front and at the back.
