New release bearing introduced

Changes
The following changes have been made in this
issue:

• A new release bearing with a new, improved

plastic material on the plastic sleeve replaces
the earlier version of the release bearing.
• A new chassis number limit has been intro-
duced.

Background
There are currently two versions of release
bearings. One has required greasing of the plas-
tic sleeve in the bearing housing while the other
has not required greasing. The bearing that does
not require grease has a plastic sleeve in Teflon
material and is therefore fitted dry to the sup-
port sleeve.

The disadvantage of greasing is that grease and

dust from the clutch mix together and could
cause the bearing to drag on the support sleeve,
which might be experienced as a heavy clutch
by the driver.

Production Solution
The release bearing that had previously been
fitted with a plastic sleeve of Teflon has been
replaced by a new bearing with a plastic sleeve
in a new material. Both bearing versions are
handled in the same way and are completely in-
terchangeable with each other.

This modification was introduced into produc-

tion from the following chassis numbers:

Truck
Scania Latin America 3 608 225

Bus
Scania Latin America 3 608 225

Service Solution
When an older version of bearing with a
greased plastic sleeve is replaced, the support
sleeve must be cleaned free of old grease and
dust before the new bearing is fitted.

IMPORTANT! Always fit the release bearing

dry and free from grease onto the support
sleeve.
