The City of Las Vegas Metro area has the 20th-highest annual RV sales
rate in the nation.
Covid-19 has hit the travel and tourism economy hard across the country in many aspects of the
industry, including Las Vegas, but the market for recreational vehicles has surged because of the
lower chance of exposure rate and the ability to maintain social distance regulations. During the
pandemic, the desire for RV travel has increased and industry experts are expecting a nearly
25% wave of RV shipments in 2021.

Over the last decade, the increase of sales for RV’s is not shocking. The market for RV travel
has been on the steady climb for quite some time. As baby boomers’ race to the roads after
retirement, they have become the driving force behind a chunk of the Census Bureau report on
RV dealership statistics, which showed that between 2012 and 2017, sales increased by 81%.
Although baby boomers take up a large portion of the demographics, a growing interest from
Millennials and Gen Z customers toward the spirit of camping and outdoor adventures has
helped as well.

The RV Industry Association’s data showcases that even shipments have reached record heights
around the same time. Since the last recession in 2009, the growth of these shipments had
plummeted to their lowest point at 165,000 but between then and 2020, the shipments have
increased by approximately 160%. This means that these shipments have risen to about 430,000.
The Northwestern United States sees the most money being spent on RVs, and a huge part of this
reason is because these locations also have plenty of natural attractions for those RV travelers
searching for the beauty of nature. Even though the interest in RVs may look different across
separate geographical regions, the Northwest has everything an enthusiastic explorer could want.

For example, Montana outshines the other states by generating an average of more than $300 in
annual RV sales per person. RV travelers flock to Montana for scenery from national parks like
Yellowstone and Glacier, but the primary reason this state brings in so much revenue is because
of its policies that benefit RV buyers. This Northwest state offers low registration fees, allows
non-residents to set up LLCs in the state to facilitate RV purchases and last but not least, has no
sales tax.

Western state locations see a substantial amount of RV travel and sales at the metro level. In
order to find which metro areas had the highest levels of consumers spending money on RVs,
Outdoorsy researchers compiled data from the U.S. Census Bureau and then used these statistics
to calculate the per capita annual sales at RV dealerships. For comparison, these researchers also
evaluated the relative density of RV dealers within the metro areas, median income of their
desired demographic, and the metro population.

Outdoorsy researchers discovered that out of all large U.S. metros, The City of Las Vegas Metro
area has the 20th-highest annual RV sales rate in the nation, generating annual sales of 258.6M.
This equates to $114 per person, per year, meaning that compared to the national average, the
Las Vegas metro area is about 7.3% higher.
If you are interested in the breakdown of the statistics behind the research, below, summarizes
the data for the Las Vegas-Henderson-Paradise, NV metro area:
● Per capita annual sales at RV dealers: $114
● Annual sales at RV dealers: $258,625,000
● Density of RV dealers (compared to average): +7.3%
● Median household income: $62,107
● Population: 2,266,715
For reference, here are the statistics for the entire United States:
● Per capita annual sales at RV dealers: $79
● Annual sales at RV dealers: $25,856,054,000
● Density of RV dealers (compared to average): N/A
● Median household income: $65,712
● Population: 328,239,523
