I INTRODUCTION
2022 marks a significant milestone as Temasek Junior College celebrates its
45th anniversary, with the tagline Ever Rooted, Ever Growing, Forever Green. As we look
back with pride on the many generations of students who have passed through our gates
and have contributed to the College and the larger society, we also remain future ready
in maintaining the timelessness of a quality, all-round education. Temasek Excellence
continues to be the driving force of our continued efforts on both academic and non-
academic fronts. This College Day is an occasion for us to celebrate the numerous and
varied achievements of our students, and to honour those who have contributed to our
students’ educational experience at TJC.
II CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Our students participated in various co-curricular activities over the course of
last year and have done the College proud with their achievements in different areas.
SPORTS
Physical fitness, fighting spirit and teamwork are integral parts of the College’s
emphasis on holistic education. Our students have done us proud at Sports and Games
competitions, even as a number of sports and games at the zonal and national levels
were cancelled due to Covid-19.

THE STUDENTS’ COUNCIL
The College is proud of the contributions made by the 44th Students’ Council.
As the pinnacle of student leadership body in TJC, the Students’ Council works
synergistically with student leaders such as the Class Committee, Peer Support Leaders
and CCA Leaders to bring about a robust and lively student leadership scene across six
cohorts and four Houses in TJC. Under the leadership of President Sheak Hoy Yip (CG
06/20), Teo Jia Xin (CG 06/20), Trenice Chong (CG08/20) from the JC Wing and Liow
Xuan Rong (CG 3D) and Tan Jun Peng (CG 3C), the 44th Students’ Council rode on the
strengths of their seniors to serve the College with pride and dedication.
The 44th Students’ Council displayed innovation, grit and perseverance

throughout their term of service, which coincided with the Covid-19 pandemic. They
employed novel technologies to launch the inaugural e-Student Leadership Camp which
brought together more than 200 CCA leaders, Special Programme leaders and Class
Chairpersons to discover their leadership potential. They reimagined the possibilities for
the IP1 Induction and JC1 Orientation titled ‘Infinity – Our Journey to Discover’ to deliver
a safe and meaningful programme for the new members of the TJC family. Temasek
Leadership Showdown, a nation-wide leadership competition organised for student
leaders from primary and secondary schools and junior colleges, was re-conceptualised
and converted to an online Zoom event that attracted more than 200 students from
various primary and secondary schools across Singapore. These events provided an
avenue for students to forge lasting positive memories in TJC and strengthened our
College spirit and House identity.
The Students’ Council continues to strive to be the voice of the student body
and organises platforms for feedback from the student body through House Dialogues,
Focus Group Discussions between the Principal and Class Civics Group
Representatives, as well as the TJC ‘This is Temasek’ Instagram page.
The Students’ Council indeed lives up to its motto, Betterment Through

Dedication. The College is proud of the way our student councillors have dedicated their
time, energy and leadership in service to TJC and beyond.

*The College is deeply saddened by the passing of Ms Malathi Das. Ms Das joined the
College Advisory Committee in Oct 2021.
The College Advisory Committee (CAC) partners the staff at TJC in making the
College an institution of distinction. The CAC members are strong supporters of College
events and programmes and play an active role in providing resources, expertise,
opportunities and experiences to enhance the learning of TJCians.
The CAC affirms students for outstanding performance both in the academic
areas and their CCA through TJC awards and scholarships, and presents Long Service
Awards to staff members for their commitment to the education service. Believing that
every student matters, the CAC also contributes to financial assistance for students in
need, so that no TJCian misses out on educational opportunities.
To deepen students’ learning and development, the CAC members have been
generously offering their time and expertise to College programmes, such as the
Temasek Internship Programme (TIP) and the Talent Development Programme (TDP).
The CAC members were also speakers for Insight | Outsight: TJC Alumni Leadership
Speaker Series as well as the International Student Leadership Congress in 2021.

VI PARENTS
The rich educational experience and varied achievements of our students
would not have been possible without the support of the parents. TJC’s partnership with
parents not only supports and strengthens College events and programmes but also
contributes towards building a strong and caring culture in TJC.
Despite not being able to be physically present to show their support at College
events in 2021 due to Covid-19, our parent support group TJC PEERS (Parents
Enthusiastically Engaged in Rendering Support) showed their support for both staff and
students in various ways. They provided snacks and Milo for our JC2 students while they
studied in the library in preparation for the A-level examination, and gifted each JC2
student with a laptop stand and a Temasek café voucher.

Our supportive PEERS also continue to be active in initiating parent-child
bonding sessions which provide an excellent platform to strengthen relationships and
forge new ones. In 2021, PEERS volunteered at Willing Hearts with their children and
also conducted baking and leather crafting sessions. We are heartened that this
meaningful partnership with parents continues via the PEERS alumni group, even after
their child or children have graduated from the College.
VII STAFF
The dedication of TJC’s staff members has been instrumental in contributing
to the climate of excellence in teaching and learning, as well as bringing the College to
greater heights and developing our students to their best potential.
Staff Development
The College keeps abreast of developments in the education scene and

believes in the importance of professional learning and development so as to maintain
excellence in pedagogy and the professional growth of teachers for our students’
successes on various fronts.
Since 2010, the College has embarked on a journey to become a Professional

Learning Community (PLC), where every teacher is a member of a learning team that
focuses on enhancing student learning. Staff members from various academic
departments have also been actively attending relevant courses and workshops to better
their content knowledge and gain exposure to best practices. In 2021, all departments
had at least one PLT which focussed on Blended Learning, a common theme based on
current needs. Their project findings were shared with other colleagues during the annual
Learning for Learning @TJC Professional Sharing. Our teachers also shared in various
external platforms such as the Instructional Programme Support Group (IPSG), the
Teachers’ Conference and ExCEL Fest (TCEF 2021), Mathematics Teachers
Conference 2021 (MTC 2021), Humanities Scholarship Programme (HSP) Symposium
Teachers’ Conference and 2021 International Science Education Conference.
The Zonal Centre Of Excellence, Research@East Zone, held the first virtual
Learning Symposium, ‘Reimagining Assessment – What Matters Most’ on 24 March
2021. The biennial Symposium provided a platform for sharing by teacher researchers
and professional development of educators across the East Zone cluster schools. About
400 educators participated in the event which comprised of a keynote speech by A/P
Mark Baildon, OER, NIE followed by one session of eighteen concurrent presentations
on a virtual platform.
