PROCEDURE: Accessing the Clary UPS

In order for a Clary 2.4 KVA UPS to perform the automatic shutdown of the system
servers it protects, the UPS must be configured to operate on the network. To set this
configuration it is necessary to first connect to the UPS then establish a Hyperterminal
session with the device. Perform this procedure to connect to the UPS and logon to the
device using Hyperterminal.
1. Connect the administrative laptop to the UPS at the SNMP port on the back of the
device using a DB9 to DB25 cable. Connect the DB9 connection to the laptop and the
DB25 connection to the UPS.
2. From the Start menu, select Programs, Accessories. Select Communications,
HyperTerminal. The Connection Description screen appears.
3. In the Name field, enter a name for the connection.
4. Select an icon in the Icon window and click OK. The Connect To screen appears.
5. In the Connect using field, select COM1 from the drop-down list and click OK. The
COM1 Properties screen appears.
6. Select parameters for the connection.
Make the following selections if connecting to an unconfigured switch.
a. In the Bits per second field, select 9600.
b. In the Data bits field, enter 8.
c. In the Parity field, select None.
d. In the Stop bits field, enter 1.
e. In the Flow control field, select Xon/Xoff.
7. On the COM1 Properties screen, click OK and press Enter. A connection is
established to the UPS and the <connection name> HyperTerminal screen appears.

8. At the Enter Password: prompt, enter admin and press Enter.
This entry is case sensitive.

9. Perform the "Configuring Clary UPS Programming" procedure.
PROCEDURE: Configuring Clary UPS Programming

Perform this procedure to configure the UPS to operate on the ISNS network.
1. Enter 1 at the Please Enter Your Choice prompt under the USHA Configuration
Utility Main Menu and press Enter. The USHA Configuration Menu appears.

2. Enter 1 at the Please Enter Your Choice prompt under the USHA Configuration
Menu and press Enter. The System Group Configuration Menu appears.
3. Enter 1 at the Please Enter Your Choice prompt under the System Group
Configuration Menu and press Enter. The Enter IP address prompt appears.

4. At the Enter IP address prompt, enter the IP address of the UPS and press Enter. You
are returned to the System Group Configuration Menu where the new IP address
appears in the right column.
The IP address for the UPS is taken from the UTS1 or STS1 VLAN of older systems with
the last octet being 240 or 241. Later systems use the SSRVR or USRVR VLANS with
the last octet of 61 or 62.
5. Enter 2 at the Please Enter Your Choice prompt under the System Group
Configuration Menu and press Enter. The Enter GW address prompt appears.

6. At the Enter GW address prompt, enter the Gateway Address for the UPS and press
Enter. You are returned to the System Group Configuration Menu where the new
gateway address appears in the right column.
7. Enter 3 at the Please Enter Your Choice prompt under the System Group
Configuration Menu and press Enter. The Enter Network Mask prompt appears.

8. At the Enter Network Mask prompt, enter the Network Mask for the UPS and press
Enter. You are returned to the System Group Configuration Menu where the new
network mask appears in the right column.
9. Enter 4 at the Please Enter Your Choice prompt under the System Group
Configuration Menu and press Enter. The Enter System Date prompt appears.

10. At the Enter System Date prompt, enter the system date using the dd/mm/yyyy
format and press Enter. You are returned to the System Group Configuration Menu
where the system date appears in the right column.
11. Enter 5 at the Please Enter Your Choice prompt under the System Group
Configuration Menu and press Enter. The Enter System Time prompt appears.

12. At the Enter System Time prompt, enter the system time following the hh:mm:ss
format and press Enter. You are returned to the System Group Configuration Menu
where the system time appears in the right column.
13. Enter 0 at the Please Enter Your Choice prompt under the System Group
Configuration Menu and press Enter. You are returned to the USHA Configuration
Menu.
14. Enter 2 at the Please Enter Your Choice prompt under the USHA Configuration
Menu and press Enter. The Control Group Configuration Menu appears.
15. Enter 4 at the Please Enter Your Choice prompt under the Control Group
Configuration Menu and press Enter. The Enable/Disable DHCP prompt appears.

16. At the Please Enter Your Choice prompt, enter 2 and press Enter. You are returned
to the Control Group Configuration Menu where BOOTP/DHCP Control is now
Disabled.
17. Enter 0 at the Please Enter Your Choice prompt under the Control Group
Configuration Menu and press Enter. You are returned to the USHA Configuration
Menu.
18. Enter 0 at the Please Enter Your Choice prompt under the USHA Configuration
Menu and press Enter. You are returned to the USHA Configuration Utility Main
Menu.
19. Enter 6 at the Please Enter Your Choice prompt under the USHA Configuration
Utility Main Menu and press Enter. The Restart USHA (y/n)? prompt appears.

20. At the Restart USHA (y/n)? prompt, enter y and press Enter. The device restarts and
you are returned to the Enter Password prompt.
21. Log on to the device and verify that all settings are correct.
22. Enter 0 at the Please Enter Your Choice prompt under the USHA Configuration
Utility Main Menu and press Enter to exit the UPS configuration.
PROCEDURE: Reinstalling Clary Monitoring Software on a Server
In the event Clary UPS monitoring software is lost or becomes corrupt, it must be
reinstalled and configured. Perform this procedure and the "Configuring Clary
Monitoring Software on a Server" procedure to reinstall and reconfigure the Clary
monitoring software on a system server.
1. Access the server to be configured for automatic UPS initiated shutdown using the
"Logging On to the Domain as an Administrator" procedure.
2. Install the USHA disk in the CD-ROM drive and navigate to and highlight the USHA
Services3.02.exe file then select File, Open. The Usha Service Setup wizard opens.

Open the Client folder then the Windows folder. The USHA Services3.02.exe file is the
only file in Windows.

6. Select Administrative Tools as the location for a program shortcut and click Next.
The USHA Service Configuration screen appears.

7. In the UPS Configuration frame, enter the IP address of the controlling UPS in the IP
Address field.
The IP address for the UPS is taken from the UTS1 or STS1 VLAN of older systems with
the last octet being 240 or 241. Later systems use the SSRVR or USRVR VLANS with
the last octet of 61 or 62.
8. In the Local Configuration frame, enter the computer name of the server being
programmed in the Client Name field.
This field automatically fills with the computer name. However, you should verify that
this entry is correct.
9. In the Shutdown Delay field, enter 1 or 60 seconds.
Enter 1 second for member server (Exchange or File servers) and 60 seconds for all
domain controllers.
10. In the Force ShutDown Delay field enter 1.
11. Ensure the Script File field is blank and the Warn Speaker and Ignore shutdown
request options are not selected and click OK. A completion confirmation screen
appears.
12. Click OK. The installation complete screen appears.
13. Click Finish.
14. Perform the "Configuring Clary Monitoring Software on a Server" procedure.

Once the USHA UPS monitoring software is installed, it must be configured to shut down
the server if a power outage occurs according to ISNS prescribed parameters.
1. From the target server, open MS Internet Explorer then enter the IP address of the
controlling UPS in the Address field and click Go. The following screen appears.

2. Expand the UPS Management menu on the left side of the page and select UPS
Control. The following screen appears.

3. Click Become Administrator. A login screen appears.
4. Enter USHA in the User name field and admin in the Password field then click OK.
You are returned to the UPS Control screen.
These entries are case sensitive.

5. Set the UPS Shutdown Delay (Sec) to 540 and click Apply.

6. From the UPS Management menu, select UPS Shutdown. The UPS Shutdown screen

7. In the Shutdown Actions column of the AC Failed row, select Client Shutdown from
the drop-down list.
8. In the Delay column of the AC Failed row, enter 3 minutes.
9. In the 1st Warning column of the AC Failed row, enter 5 seconds.
10. In the Warning Interval column of the AC Failed row, enter 10 seconds.
11. Click Set Value. Close the UPS Shutdown screen.

6.6.10 HOW TO RESTORE THE MSS FROM BACKUPS.


MSS failures that require a restoration of software generally take one of two forms, the entire
device can fail or the operating software can become corrupted. Software corruption also
includes misconfiguration. When the entire device has failed and been replaced, the software
load is installed on the new device from backups stored on the PCMCIA card of the failed unit
using a HyperTerminal connection. Restoring corrupted software is more difficult task.
Corrupted software can keep the device from booting thereby requiring the administrator to break
into the boot process to access the Utilities program to complete the restoration.

Remote Control of Receptacles Each row of output connectors can be individually switched on or off at the front panel. Locked-up devices
