REACTION PAPER

1. ECOLOGICAL SHIFTS:
Shaping Teachers Identities and Work

It refers to how teachers identify themselves as a teacher, and who they are as professionals and who they
strive and are empowered to become in a constant process of reflecting on their practices and experiences.
Teachers varied in many ways and there are different factors why teachers are identified as what they are.
Teacher identity does affect the classroom and learning environment. One area where self-awareness is
particularly important is regarding one's cultural beliefs and biases, which definitely affect teaching
effectiveness. To understand one's beliefs and biases requires full understanding of one's own culture.
however, as important as identity factors are, the relationships that the teacher forms with her or his students
are far more important. If an authentic atmosphere of acceptance and care is established, the diversity of
identities of the individuals in the classroom can strengthen the classroom community for the benefit of all.

2. Ecological Navigations:
Socialization to School Norms: “STUDENTS”

Schools also serve a latent function in society by socializing children into behaviors like practicing
teamwork, following a schedule, and using textbooks. School and classroom rituals, led by teachers serving as
role models and leaders, regularly reinforce what society expects from children. Schools are a great way for
kids to learn how to communicate, make friends, develop healthy relationships, and get along with people who
are different from them. Functional theory stresses the functions that education serves in fulfilling a society’s
various needs. Perhaps the most important function of education is socialization. If children need to learn the
norms, values, and skills they need to function in society, then education is a primary vehicle for such learning

3. Parents Involvement

Parental involvement is essential for student development and offers many benefits. ... It also helps improve
student behavior in the classroom. Having parents and teachers communicate more helps students feel more motivated in
their classes; their self-esteem and attitudes in class improve. No matter their income or background, students with
involved parents are more likely to have higher grades and test scores, attend school regularly, have better social skills,
show improved behavior and adapt well to school.” Parents can demonstrate involvement at home-by reading with their
children, helping with homework, and discussing school events-or at school, by attending functions or volunteering in
classrooms.
