Design Project 1: MULTISPECIALITY HOSPITAL AT AMRITSAR

To cater to the growing need of healthcare facilities, a multispecialty hospital is proposed in the city of
Amritsar on a site of 125 X 200 meters situated on the six lane Amritsar bye pass road (please refer to the
drawing attached). Approach to the proposed hospital shall be from the service lane of the six lane bye
pass road.
As an architect you are required to prepare an architectural design proposal for the hospital. Brief
requirements are listed below. When working on the architectural design proposal, an architect considers
‘function’ and basic ‘theory of design’ for any particular project/building. In addition, following points
need to be considered while designing the project in hand:
• Effective zoning- eg public zone, clinical zone, staff zone, etc.
• Consideration for the wheelchair users and people with disabilities
• Security and supervision
• Separate amenities for public and staff
• Energy efficient and low maintenance approach
• Grouping of spaces
• Flexibility in the use of some spaces and potential for future extension
• Orientation
• Landscaping

Maximum ground coverage: 40 %
