1.0 GENERAL
1.1 Purpose
This specification and data sheets, describes the minimum requirements for design,
materials procurement, fabrication, inspection and testing, supply and performance
guarantee of the Manual Monorail Hoist with Trolley.
Compliance with the requirements of this specification or any of the documents referred
to herein shall not relieve the VENDOR of his responsibility to supply equipment of proper
design, workmanship and materials conforming to good engineering practice to meet the
specified conditions.
The intent of this specification is to describe the minimum acceptable parameters for the
design, manufacture, inspection and testing of the equipment. It’s not the intent of EPC
CONTRACTOR to deviate from good engineering practice. The absence of any
specifications shall imply that the best engineering practices shall prevail, utilizing the
best quality workmanship and materials.
1.2 Definitions
EPC CONTRACTOR : The party which carries out all or part of the
design, engineering, procurement, construction,
& testing + pre-commissioning of the Project.
Terms design/ build and EPC are treated as
replaceable with each other.

The following codes and standards, to the extent specified herein, form a part of this
specification. When an edition date is not indicated for a code or standard, the latest
edition in force at the time of VENDOR’s proposal submitted shall apply.

• PROJECT specifications;
In the event of any conflict of data or requirements in any of the above documents, it is
the VENDOR’s responsibility to resolve these conflicts before proceeding with design,
manufacture or purchase. In any case, the most stringent requirement shall prevail.
However, OWNER / EPC CONTRACTOR interpretation shall be final.
Deviations from this specification are only acceptable where the VENDOR has listed in
his quotation the requirements he cannot, or does not wish to comply with, and the
EPC CONTRACTOR has accepted in writing the deviations before the order is placed.
Any technical deviations to the Purchase order and its attachments including, but not
limited to, the Data Sheets and Narrative Specifications shall be sought by the
VENDOR only through CONCESSION REQUEST format. CONCESSION REQUESTS
require EPC CONTRACTOR’s review/approval, prior to the proposed technical
changes being implemented. Technical changes implemented prior to EPC
CONTRACTOR approval are subject to rejection.
The governing language of the contract shall be English Language. All notices,
correspondences, information, literature, data, manuals and other documents required
under this contract shall be in the English Language.
Technical units, quantities, etc shall be expressed, used and abbreviated according to
the SI system. Preferred units of measure are as for:

4.1 General
Design and manufacture of hoist shall be consistent with capacity, lift, head room and
other parameters.
All associated parts to enable the Chain Pulley Block to be a fully operational package
shall be included.
The hoist shall be rated for the Safe Working Load (SWL) as specified in the Hoist
data sheet.
The Hoist’s monorail beam shall form part of the building structure and it will be
supplied by others (EPC Contractor). The Monorail beam size specified in the data
sheet shall be confirmed by Vendor.
The equipment supplied shall conform to the latest relevant sections of the referenced
standards and codes and the requirements.
The Certifying Authority for the hoist shall be local statutory authority in the country
where it will be manufactured.
The hoist shall be designed for installation and operation in a Non-Hazardous Area as
specified in the Hoist Data Sheet.
The material of construction used in the manufacture of the hoist shall be of new stock.
4.2 Structural
The Vendor shall provide all information necessary to design the hoist support
monorail beam with provision for adequate operating and maintenance clearances.
4.3 Mechanical
All machinery parts shall be designed in accordance with BS 302, BS 2903 and BS
3243.

Exposed moving parts in contact with each other, which may produce mechanical
sparking (e.g., hooks), shall be a combination of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, to
ensure safe operation.
Travel wheels shall be manufactured from corrosion resistant alloy to provide the
maximum corrosion resistance and shall be approved by the COMPANY.
Loaded bolts shall be grade 8.8 to BS 3692 and Zinc plated. Ancillary fasteners shall
be stainless steel.
The hoist shall be fitted with retaining devices on the trolley carriages to positively
prevent any wheel leaving the beam. The lifting system shall be provided with a
mechanical overload protection device to prevent the possibility of an overload
occurring. The overload device shall be designed to be tamperproof.
All rotating parts such as wheels, gears, trolleys etc., shall be provided with sealed-ball
or roller bearings with a minimum life of 20,000 hours. Bearings shall be in
accordance with B.S. or ISO Standards.
Moving parts shall be guarded in accordance with BS 5304. The guards shall be
fabricated of bronze or equivalent non-sparking material.
The guards shall be easily removable for maintenance purposes by the use of normal
maintenance tools. Should any special tool be required then they shall be provided by
the Vendor.
Chain pulley block shall be provided with an automatic mechanical Ratchet and Pawl
type load brake which will prevent self lowering of the load, arrest and sustain load in
all working positions. The load brake shall also allow smooth lowering of the load
without serious overheating which may impair efficient working of the block. The Pawl
& Ratchet shall be made of steel hardened and tempered to provide a satisfactory
degree of water resistance. The hardness of Pawl tip and Ratchet shall not be less
than 40 and 30 HRC respectively.
The brakes shall be of a heavy-duty type and shall have proven reliability.
The brake drums shall be capable of smoothly arresting and sustaining all loads
including the test loads.
The brake shall be designed to make it possible to manually lower and stop a safe
working load under full control.
All brake assemblies shall have provision for checking and adjusting for wear without
disassembly and be fully protected from the environment, dirt, oil and grease.

4.5 Hooks
The bottom hook block shall be provided with a thrust bearing to enable it to freely
swivel in the loaded condition without twisting the load chain. The top hook if required
to swivel shall also be provided with a thrust bearing. Ball and roller bearings shall not
be used in the hooks. Hooks shall be provided with spring loaded safety latch to
prevent accidental unhooking.
The hoist shall be furnished with a single forged steel fabricated C-type hook with lock.
The hook assembly shall be shaped such that it shall prevent the assembly from being
caught or trapped by an obstruction in any position.
All hooks shall be supported in thrust race bearings to provide full rotational freedom
and be provided with a lubrication point.
The hook assembly shall be fitted with protective side plates, which can be readily
handled from both sides.
If the fitment of a safety latch reduces the admittance dimension of the hook, then the
next size larger shall be fitted.
The chain shall be pitched and polished. The length of chain shall be such that the
lowest point of loop shall be 0.4 meter above finished floor level.
4.8 Trolley
The trolley for the hoist shall be spark proof geared type, fabricated construction, four
(4) wheeled, driven by hand chain and shall have provision for mounting the chain
pulley block.
Trolley shall be designed to suit the hoist size and hoisting capacity.
Chain Pulley Block shall have manual chains for hoisting and longitudinal motions. The
Chain Pulley Block control shall be capable of performing both the motions
simultaneously as well as separately.
5.0 FABRICATION
Vendor shall demonstrate to Company that the manufacturing processes used for the
fabrication of the Hoist are well proven and compatible with the application specified.
6.0 NOISE
The noise levels quoted shall be representative of the whole equipment working at its
design duty. The equipment with all its associated shall be designed for a maximum
noise measured not to be exceeded 70 dBA at 1 m distance.
The equipment shall be painted YELLOW or alternate bands of YELLOW & BLACK.
The SWL of the equipment shall be marked on the hoist.
The Hoist and Trolley shall be fully assembled in the Vendor’s works and the correct
functions, under ‘no load’ conditions, of all motions, limit switches and safety devices
shall be demonstrated to COMPANY’s representative.
A performance test shall be carried out to demonstrate all motions and safety devices
at the Safe Working Load of the Hoist. Included in this test shall be a minimum of 5
meters of longitudinal travel of the Chain Pulley Block at the Safe Working Load.
During the works function and performance test, the brakes and bearings shall be
checked for vibration and temperature rise and seals shall be checked for leakages.
Following the function and performance testing of the Hoist, an overload test shall be
carried out. After function, performance and overload tests have been completed the
Hoist shall be thoroughly examined for defects or deformities.
Any such defects and consequential repairs shall be recorded and documented and
shall be included in the manufacturing record book.

Acceptance of works testing shall not constitute a waiver of the requirements of the
Hoist to meet the proof test requirements following installation of the Hoist at the
operating facility.
Manufactured Hoist with Pulley ready for service shall be tested and inspected by the
manufacturer prior to delivery. The Hoist with Pulley mounted or finally assembled at
their places of use shall be tested and inspected prior to being put into service. The
equipment shall be tested as per ISO 4310 and applicable standards. The testing site
shall be leveled and the wind velocity shall be no more than 8.3m/s during testing.
The responsibility for quality control and inspection rests with the VENDOR; however,
EPC CONTRACTOR may inspect the materials, fabrication, assembly and testing of the
equipment during all phases of the work.
Inspection and testing shall be done by The VENDOR and some tests will be witnessed
by EPC CONTRACTOR or his representatives as deemed necessary.
The VENDOR shall refer all questions relating to quality control, testing, and an
acceptance of the work to EPC CONTRACTOR’s Inspector.
The VENDOR shall be responsible for establishing a detailed inspection and testing
schedule with EPC CONTRACTOR. Inspection will be performed and witnessed by
Third Party Inspection Agency appointed by EPC CONTRACTOR. The VENDOR shall
provide an Inspection and Testing plan for EPC CONTRACTOR’s approval.
The VENDOR shall specify all of the inspection and testing requirements in the quality
plan, which shall identify the activities requiring EPC CONTRACTOR’s approval,
review, witnessing etc.
The VENDOR in presence of Third Party Inspection Agency and / or Company shall
conduct a Factory Acceptance Test/ Performance Test. The test procedures and
conditions shall be prior approved by EPC CONTRACTOR to verify the performance of
this unit.
• Applicable Codes, standards and specifications, which shall also include sub-
referenced standards therein;

All equipment shall be presented for inspection in an unpainted state except for the
final inspection. All instruments and other equipment necessary for testing shall be
supplied by the VENDOR and the same shall be checked and certified by EPC
CONTRACTOR.
The VENDOR shall be responsible for co-coordinating the inspection and testing of
SUBVENDOR supplied equipment, and for ensuring that the EPC CONTRACTOR’s
representatives are given the necessary access for inspection, and adequate warning
of inspection and tests.
EPC CONTRACTOR shall be given minimum of 10 working days notice prior to the
carrying-out of any tests on the equipment covered by this specification.
The VENDOR (and all SUBVENDOR) shall give EPC CONTRACTOR, without charge,
all reasonable facilities and access for the purpose of inspecting the equipment to
ensure that it is manufactured in accordance with the Specification.
All spare parts shall be subjected to the same inspection standards and full material
certification as the main order.
The equipment shall not leave the VENDOR’s factory before all discovered defects
have been rectified and without EPC CONTRACTOR’s written permission.
The EPC CONTRACTOR reserves the right to visit the VENDOR’s premises to
witness an acceptance test of the equipment and shall be given twenty working days
notice in writing of readiness for this Testing. The equipment will be thoroughly tested
by the VENDOR prior to the acceptance test. Prior to the start of the VENDOR’s
testing, a detailed schedule of the tests shall be supplied to the EPC CONTRACTOR.
The acceptance test will check compliance with the specification and the VENDOR is
to make available all necessary equipment and services for this test. Notwithstanding
the above notice periods the VENDOR shall, following receipt of the Purchase Order
submit to the EPC CONTRACTOR a schedule identifying details of timing of design,
construction and testing activities.
Factory Acceptance Test procedures shall be submitted by the VENDOR for EPC
CONTRACTOR’s review and approval.

The VENDOR shall maintain and use a Quality System, to control the work. The
SUBCONTRACTOR shall be selected based on the OWNER approved VENDOR list.
The VENDOR shall give his SUBCONTRACTOR or VENDOR’s assistance in attaining
the required standard, if necessary. This shall not relieve the VENDOR of his
responsibility for the quality of the finished work. OWNER reserve the right to audit the
VENDOR’s Quality System.
The VENDOR shall assign sufficient full time personnel to the PROJECT to ensure the
Quality Assurance / Quality Control System, documented in a Quality Assurance / Control
Manual, which is maintained and kept up-to-date throughout the duration of any purchase
order. The VENDOR’s Quality Assurance / Control System shall become an integral part
of any purchase order. The VENDOR shall organize a prefabrication / inspection meeting
with EPC CONTRACTOR.
The VENDOR shall be responsible for ensuring that the goods and services supplied
meet all applicable national and international codes/regulations on health, safety and
environmental requirements.
The VENDOR shall guarantee the process performance and mechanical design of all
equipment supplied under this specification when operated at the conditions specified
herein. The VENDOR shall specifically state the limits in the process guarantee, in terms
of variance from design composition, in his proposal. The guarantee will include the
following essential elements:
• Manual Monorail Hoist with Trolley shall meet the requirements stated in the
data sheet;
The VENDOR will warrant the equipment to be free of defects in material and
workmanship, and that it is of adequate size and capacity to fulfill the design and
operating conditions specified herein. The VENDOR shall replace and install without cost
to EPC CONTRACTOR any materials, supplies or equipment which fails under design
conditions due to defects in material or workmanship if the defect is observed and/or such
failure occurs within one (1) year from the date such equipment or material is put in
operation, or eighteen (18) months from delivery date, whichever comes first, the
VENDOR shall replace and install without cost to EPC CONTRACTOR any materials,
supplies or equipment involved. Acceptance of this order will signify acceptance of all
conditions of this guarantee.

12.0 HANDLING
Preparation of the Packages for shipment is a crucial step in the completion of this
contract. The VENDOR must take into considerations that all equipment and the
Package itself shall be prepared for ocean shipment and storage for extended periods
outside in an ocean environment. Care must be taken to protect the Packages from
external attack by the elements and from the impact of moisture and humidity on the
equipment.
It is likely that a certain amount of disassembly will be required for shipment including
some of the mechanical components and some instrumentation. The VENDOR shall
provide very specific detailed instructions for reassembling the components and must
assume that those doing the reassemble of the components will be unskilled. If in the
VENDOR’s opinion the reassembling cannot be completed by unskilled labors, then the
VENDOR must include in the proposal for the services of its own skilled personnel to go
to the site and supervise or undertake the reassembling and verification that the
equipment is suitable for operation.
Adoption of suitable packing methods and materials is at the sole discretion of the
VENDOR, and should any loss, damage and/or deterioration be caused due to improper
packing, the consequences shall be the responsibility of the VENDOR.
The dimensional restriction for transportation of any equipment shall be maximum 4.5m
in width x 4.5m Height x 22m Length, and total weight should not exceed 60 tons. Any
dimension or weight exceeds the shipping restrictions shall be approved, in writing, by
EPC CONTRACTOR.
Equipment and materials shall be protected to withstand ocean transit and extended
period of storage at the jobsite for a minimum period of 18 months. Equipment shall be
protected to safeguard against all adverse environments, such as humidity, moisture,
rain, dust, dirt, sand, mud, salt air, salt spray, and seawater.
Assemblies supplied in transport units shall have these units clearly marked to facilitate
assembly at site.
Instructions for transport, storage, erection and maintenance of the equipment shall be
supplied by the VENDOR as an integral part of the order.
Special tools and equipment required for erection, commission, and maintenance from
part of the order and shall be shipped together with the assembly.

13.0 DOCUMENTATION
10.1 General
This section describes the VENDOR Data Requirements applicable to the VENDOR’s
scope.
Drawings returned to The VENDOR for correction after mark-up by EPC CONTRACTOR
or his designated representative shall be resubmitted by The VENDOR until “Proceed
with Fabrication Issue Final Drawings.” All revisions to documents must be clouded
and identified with the revision number contained within a triangle placed beside the
cloud.
The VENDOR shall not proceed with changes having a commercial impact unless
authorized by Change Order.
If, for any reason, The VENDOR believes that he is not able to comply with the EPC
CONTRACTOR’s marked-up comments on the documents returned after review, The
VENDOR shall notify, in writing, EPC CONTRACTOR immediately giving proper

Drawings and data approval does not relieve The VENDOR of his responsibility to
meet Purchase Order or Contract conditions relating to specifications, material design
or construction, and delivery requirements, nor relieve The VENDOR of responsibility for
compliance with laws, codes and regulations.
The VENDOR shall also be responsible for providing manuals and other training aids
such as videos for operator training.
