Hearst Magazine Analysis

Magazine Example 1
They have used a colour pallet to bring a female vibe towards the paper as pink is
stereotypically linked with females and the jacket and some of the writing is in
pink.

The way in which the picture was taken represents the female as being strong and
powerful as the picture is taken from below looking up at her. As women are
underrepresented compared to men in society this will make other women
reading this feel more confident and valued.

They have limited how much text in on the front cover and mainly use the image
as their way of marketing their magazine with a big high-quality image. The
magazine is targetted at women and they use a photo of a women wearing
revealing cloths which will empower other women to feel confident about
themselves

The use of serif typography represents that the magazine takes a formal approach
and shows the high quality of the magazine.

On the front the language used is all talking about very similar topics and uses like
mini headlines and quotes to show what's upcoming in the magazine.
Magazine Example 2
• Colour Pallet is used to give a black and white then writes the celebrity's
name in a different colour so everyone can see his name. The black and
white is used to present a character as classy who's not normally.
• The layout on both magazines is very similar where they have little text and
is dominated by a big high-quality picture. The Magazine name is written in
big at the top then the next biggest writing is the celebrity's name. They
have done this to use the celebrity to draw attention towards the magazine
• The Magazine name "ELLE" is written in serif to show it’s a high-
quality formal magazine however the story about Zayn Malik is written
in sans serif which shows that has more of an informal character and they
even write "Rise of the Rebel" which is an informal phrase.
• The magazine uses a picture of the celebrity posing and looking powerful
emphasized by the black and white colour scheme. They purposely show
the tattoo he has on his hand as tattoos come with stereotypes and
annotations and they are trying to make it a more accepting thing in
society.
