1.

Use the Table of Standard Normal distribution to find the probabilities of the
following;
a. P(Z <-1.45)
=1 – P(Z > -1.45)
=1 – 0.0735
=0.9265

b. P(0.5 < Z < 2.33)

=0.9406 – 0.2734
=0.6672

c. P(Z > 1.78)

=0.9406 + 0.5000
=0.9625

2. X is a normally distributed random variable with a mean of 60 and a standard

deviation of 8. Find the probabilities indicated by using the table.
a. P(X < 52)
=P(X< 52-60/8)
=P(X<-1)
=0.1587

b. P(48 < X < 64)

=P(48-60/8 < X < 64-60/8)
=P(-1.5 < X < 0.5)
=0.1915 + 0.4332
=0.6247

c. P(X > 57)

=P(X > 57-60/8)
=P(X > -0.375)
=1 – P(X < -0.375
=1-0.35569
=0.34431
3. The average number of calories in a 1.8-ounce chocolate bar is 230. Suppose
that the distribution of calories is approximately normal with a standard
deviation of 10. Find the probability that a randomly selected chocolate bar
will have less than 200 calories.

= [(200-230) /10]
= -30/10
= -3
= P(Z<-3)
= 1- P(Z<-3)
= 1 – 0.0013
= 0.9987

4. The average monthly salary of 500 teachers of Candelaria East district is

P26,500. If the monthly salaries of the teachers are normally distributed with
a standard deviation of P2,500, approximately how many teachers in the
district are earning more than P30,000 monthly?
= [(30,000 – 26,500) /2500]
= 1.4
1.4=0.0808
=500*0.0808
=40.4
